The Computer Science and Software Engineering Department at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position as Assistant or Associate Professor in Computer Science and Software Engineering rank beginning Fall Quarter 2021. Duties include teaching undergraduate and master's level courses, supporting and expanding curricular development in Computer Science or Software Engineering, pursuing research in these areas, and providing service to the department, the university, and the community. A doctorate in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field is required.  Candidates should display evidence of ability to teach courses in one or more of the following areas: software engineering, artificial intelligence, systems, ethics / professional responsibilities, or other areas supporting CSSE programs.

Cal Poly emphasizes Learn by Doing which involves extensive lab work and projects in support of theoretical knowledge. To this end, the Computer Science and Software Engineering Department maintains an array of modern computing facilities and specialized labs for instructional and faculty support.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent is required for appointment. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered, but must provide proof that the doctorate is completed prior to the start of the appointment.

Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and laboratory-based instruction, dedication to continued professional development and scholarship, and a broad-based knowledge of computer science/software engineering. Candidates must have a strong commitment to working in a multidisciplinary and collaborative setting. Demonstrated ability in written and oral use of the English language is required.

The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Cal Poly is committed to the teacher-scholar model. As teachers, faculty are expected to exhibit strong pedagogic skills and to remain proficient and current in their disciplines. As scholars, faculty should be engaged in scholarly work that is of very high quality as evidenced by external peer review. As colleagues, it is appropriate for faculty to perform service activities at all levels of the University.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in university-level teaching and research (commensurate with time since degree), experience with laboratory-based instruction, and industry experience.

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
