About the Position:
The Pollak Library Administration Office aims to become a model library, nationally recognized for innovative spaces, collections, services, tools, and programs that enable academic success of our students; promote information literacy skills; fulfill the needs of our academic programs and scholarly activities; facilitate and encourage the systematic and serendipitous acquisition of knowledge; invite collaboration; and help interconnect its vibrant and diverse community of learners and scholars. We are searching for an exceptional individual to join our team as an Associate Dean, Public Service. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the Associate Dean for Public Services is a key member of the Dean's team and assists the Dean in the management and oversight of all Library operations. Works collaboratively with Library unit heads, librarians, and staff. Assists Dean in implementing the vision, strategic plan, and goals of the Library, and provides leadership to ensure effective and accountable library operations. Serves as a member of the Pollak Library Dean's Council and as such, participates in library-wide planning, policy formation, and decision-making. Represents and acts on behalf of the Dean of the Library. More specifically, the Associate Dean for Public Services' oversight, leadership and management responsibilities are in the following areas: access services; liaison to instruction and reference services; library exhibits and marketing; outreach and community engagement; committee service; and other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Master's degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in Library Science. A minimum of three years of progressively responsible administrative experience in an academic or research library setting including personnel supervision. Effective and proven communication skills (verbal and written).

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Five years of professional and relevant experience in progressively more responsible positions, including personnel supervision. Understanding and experience in implementing the principles of library and information science services, philosophies, technologies, library-wide operations (services provided and resources required), and business operations (accounting, strategic planning, cost analysis, personnel administration, licenses, contracts and leases, project management, statistical analysis, and process optimization, among other business practices). Demonstrated awareness of new services, technologies, and programs, including recommending and coordinating the appropriate Library response. Supervisory and/or management experience in an academic library.
