General summary/purpose:

The Maternal Newborn Health Team’s Program Officer will provide program support in the areas of maternal and newborn health, with a wide range of potential activities, including supporting MCGL’s maternal mental health (MNH), antenatal care, and respectful maternity care portfolios. This includes working in close collaboration with MCGL’s MNH Team, including the MNH Director, Sr. Development Technical Officer, Sr. Program Officer, Technical Advisors and Sr. Program Coordinator. Program Officer will also manage day-to-day planning, development, and execution of projects within MCGL’s MNH team, and ensure strong collaboration between headquarters and field teams, as well as partners external to the organization.

USAID’s Momentum Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) award is a five-year USAID funded global award, that works in tandem with country governments and local nongovernmental organizations to provide targeted technical and capacity development assistance, and contribute to the global technical leadership and policy dialogue on improving measurable outcomes for maternal, reproductive, newborn and child health, and voluntary family planning.

Responsibilities:

  • Support planning and implementation of a large global technical consultation, including report writing
  • Contribute to writing and editing as needed, including on gender and gender-based violence related issues
  • Prepare country briefs, including formatting and references
  • Support compiling and reviewing of relevant reports across the MNH portfolio
  • Liaise with MNH and data visualization teams to build or refine data visualizations for reports and policy dialogues
  • Organize meetings and support note taking as needed
  • Coordinate technical assistance for program implementation
  • Assist the technical staff in the design, implementation, monitoring and assessment of activities
  • Providing support for other activities as assigned
  • Ensure knowledge management is maintained

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MPH or relevant experience
  • 3 years at program coordinator level or equivalent work experience
  • Experience managing small to medium size public health projects (e.g., multiple partners, difficult donor relations, low in-country capacity) including reporting and managing partner relationships
  • Experience with workplan development, reviewing quarterly and annual reports, providing budget inputs and program close out
  • Certified in PM@Jhpiego (Jhpiego’s internal project management curricula) or PMD Pro (or will be within 60 days of hire)
  • Understands basic financial management principles and budgeting
  • Strong understanding of at least 2 technical areas in which Jhpiego works
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills: identifying the problem; locating, gathering, and organizing relevant information; generating alternatives; choosing a solution; implementing the solution
  • Strong teamwork skills: identifying team membership and role; establishing productive relationships; meeting team objectives; resolving conflicts
  • Experience with Office 365 including strong Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, TeamSites
  • Understanding of global health, and international development program/financial management principles and operations
  • Communication and presentation skills: developing communication products (success stories, FB posts, briefs, PowerPoint presentations), writing skills, and presenting skills
  • Knowledge of USG rules and regulations, including USG contract management
  • Experience with Stata data analysis software and Power Bi data visualization software
  • Ability to travel up to 30% time

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
