Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean for HR, this position will function as a Human Resources Manager for the School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) within the Dean's Office. The HR Manager shares responsibility for nearly 2400 faculty, 1900 academic staff, 1000 university staff employees and employees in training, student assistants and volunteers.

The HR Manager works with a team of HR Business Partners to implement and monitor human resources programs including recruitment, performance management, compensation and classification, and employment relations for a subset of SMPH departments. The position also operationalizes, implements and monitors the use of approved policies and procedures and ensures strategic alignment. The HR Manager will assist in strategy development to ensure departments and units are able to process and support workforce needs and ensure regulatory compliance.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

A Bachelor's degree or seven years of equivalent experience required.

A Bachelor's degree in human resources management, business administration, or a closely related field is preferred.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-Minimum of four years in a human resources role required.
-Experience working within a higher education, academic medicine, or health care environment preferred.
-Knowledge of University of Wisconsin and UW-Madison policies and procedures strongly preferred.
-Experience advising on employee relations matters preferred.
-Supervisory or lead worker experience preferred.

The SMPH Human Resources Manager is expected to demonstrate:
-Effective oral and written communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with others.
-Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, relationship management, and conflict resolution skills.
-Ability to effectively translate human resources policies and to actively listen to stakeholder needs and recommend appropriate courses of action.
-Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
-Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
-Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
-Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
-Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn UW and SMPH HRIS and other HR-related systems.

License or Certificate:

PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.

Additional Information:

Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant professional work experience. A minimum of seven years of experience is required for appointment at the senior level.

The ideal hiring salary will be within $80,000-$90,000, with some flexibility.
