Title: Assistant Director of Volunteer Programs and Community Partnerships
The Assistant Director of Volunteer Programs and Community Partnerships oversees the College’s volunteer programs and manages relationships and collaborations with a range of off-campus partners and populations. This hands-on position provides direct support for an increasingly diverse Bates College community, utilizing excellent customer service skills. They also support the year-round Community Work-Study program.
- Develop and oversee opportunities for partnership-based student volunteer work in the local off-campus community, supporting volunteer experiences for approximately 1,000 students annually.
- Assure equity, inclusion, access, and anti-racism as central to the work and the delivery of services to faculty, staff, and students.
- Facilitate select orientations, trainings, and reflection opportunities to ensure best practices for community engagement, including cultural competence/ humility training that takes into account the diversity of populations and cultures in the local off-campus community.
- Oversee extracurricular community engagement activities via student clubs, athletic teams, and residence life initiatives, including oversight of the AmeriCorps VISTA’s work in these areas.
- Provide information and guidance for students, faculty, and staff who wish to engage in volunteer work in the local community.
- Track and report on program metrics, including participation rates, hours worked, partnerships mobilized, deliverables produced, challenges/obstacles encountered, etc.
- Develop and manage sustained partnerships with local non-profit and governmental agencies, including in-person consultations, phone and email check-ins, annual community partner luncheon, and attendance at select partner-sponsored events.
- In support of the College's equity mission, cultivate and manage sustained relationships and collaborations with local immigrant, refugee, asylee, and asylum-seeking individuals and organizations, including community sponsorship, language learning, and youth engagement programs.
- In support of the College's partnership with local schools and after-school programs, and with guidance from the Associate Director of Community-Engaged Learning, work with local educators to place approximately 200 Education students in local schools and after-school sites each semester, including collecting and matching student schedules with the needs and availability of dozens of placement sites.
- Maintain an updated list of partner agencies, contacts, projects, and opportunities.
- Respond constructively to inquiries for Bates donations and/or volunteers from diverse off-campus individuals and organizations.
Community Work Study Program:
- Manage the personnel, partnership, and payroll components of the college’s Community Work Study program.
- Collaborate with diverse nonprofit and governmental community partner organizations to identify employment opportunities suitable for Bates students; educate organizations about the Community Work Study program, and respond to questions, ideas, and/or concerns raised by community partners.
- Advertise employment opportunities to students and respond to student inquiries. ● Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or equivalent combination of relevant educational, life, and work experience.
● Three to five years of experience working successfully with diverse populations.
● Experience in program management.
