Job Summary

Responsible for recruitment and evaluation of prospective students, works on outreach to prospective students and schools outside the U.S. and performs related public relations and marketing functions to aid in the overall mission of the Smith College Office of Admission.

Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Essential Functions

Recruitment (40%)

· Assist the Associate Director, International with all aspects of the recruitment of international students. Plan and coordinate approximately eight weeks of travel to recruit students internationally. Visit high schools, attend college fairs, conduct workshops, and meet with alumnae in the U.S. and abroad. Manage correspondence with students, parents, counselors, and other constituencies. Present on-campus and/or virtual information sessions and participate in leading workshops during events for prospective and admitted students.

International Outreach (30%)

· Supervise international intern and work with the International Students Organization. Coordinate campus visits from overseas guidance counselors. Work with faculty and students who are traveling or studying abroad to encourage their participation in local admission events.

Admission (20%)

· Interview and evaluate prospective applicants. Read and vote on admissibility of candidates for admission to the college, both those who apply from outside the U.S. and those in U.S. schools, in coordination with a team of colleagues under the direction of the Dean of Admission.

Other Functions

Administrative Functions (10%)

· Keep abreast of pertinent developments at Smith College, in higher education, and in the field of professional admission work. Cooperate with other administrators of the College where necessary, especially Student Financial Services; International Students and Scholars, and the Alumnae Association. Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

Bachelor’s degree; minimum of two years of experience in admission or related field or equivalent of education and experience. Individual must be able to obtain a passport, hold a valid driver's license and be able and willing to participate in both car and airplane travel.

Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with a language other than English and international travel experience are a plus.

Skills

Must be highly organized, flexible, independent and energetic in balancing multiple priorities. A successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact with international audiences, especially those from outside the U.S.

Willing to work some nights and weekends as necessary.
