PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Scope of Responsibility:
  • Assists the Chair in representing the department to Senior Administration
  • Able to assume role for department leadership in Chair’s absence
  • Serves as an expert in the profession to advise on program changes, new program initiatives, and student recruitment
  • Assists in recruitment and interview process for faculty, administrative personnel, and other staff
  • Develops, designs, and delivers instruction in assigned courses and provides course syllabi for instruction
  • Participates in student advising and mentoring, as well as mentoring of faculty and staff
  • Engages in the academic roles of teaching, service, scholarship, and research
  • Assist Chair in the maintenance of accreditation standards
  • Coordinates appropriate community agency linkages for student learning experiences 
  • Actively engages in the institution and department committees
  • Assist Chair with the design, coordination, and implementation of program curriculum
  • Other duties as assigned
  Compliance/Regulatory Responsibility:
  • Assists in curricular review, program evaluation, and maintenance of accreditation standards, as well as other aspects of program improvement
  • Assists in developing and submitting accreditation reports
  • Helps develop and review criteria for admission and makes recommendations to the Admissions Committee
  • Assures the maintenance of adequate student records for evaluating progress of the student
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and implement academic policies and procedures
 

Operating & Capital Budget/Financial Responsibility:

  • Assists with short-term and long-term fiscal management and allocation of resources within the Department
  Strategic Planning Responsibility:
  • Serve as a committee member of the standing committees of the University where applicable
  • Assists the Chair with the five-year strategic plan, updating the goals, objectives, and assessments
  Performance Improvement Responsibility:
  • May assist Chair in peer teaching evaluations for faculty
  • Promotes faculty development by encouraging: research, writing, participation in professional
  • Helps develop improvement plans for department, faculty, staff, and students in response to assessment findings
  Community Relations Responsibility:
  • Exhibits and models the characteristics of a Christian professional consistent with AHU standard for “nurture, excellence, spirituality, and stewardship”
  • Functions as a liaison and program representative when interacting with the Program Advisory Board and other community stakeholders
  Staffing/Labor/Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Assists in recruitment, interview process, and hiring decisions for core faculty, adjuncts, and administrative personnel
  • Assists in evaluating and planning faculty workloads, assigning courses to reflect appropriate teaching load within the program
  • Participates in all course instruction, development technology, and employee scheduling 
 

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Work cooperatively with others within and outside department and institution
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information in understandable terms to all levels, including administration, faculty, staff, students, and other internal and external affiliates
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed with ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet deadlines
  • Ability to resolve inquiries and complaints from employees, students, faculty, and other stakeholders
  • Knowledgeable of current educational methodology for their respective discipline
  • Demonstrate effectiveness in instruction, curriculum design, program planning, evaluation, and academic advisement
  • Effectively use computer skills and technology related to educational and administrative duties, particularly Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and implement licensure regulations and legal guidelines for profession
  • Evidence of professional and organizational service
 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

  • Demonstrated teaching expertise for classroom and clinical instruction, established research agenda

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Doctoral Degree in Nursing or other related areas, such as, Education or Psychology (EdD, DNP or PhD) from a regionally accredited university
  Education Preferred:     EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • Two years of experience in Nursing Education Administration or Nursing Leadership 
  • Two years of experience in Nursing Education (BSN program or higher level)
  • Five years of clinical experience
  Experience Preferred:
  • Experience in new course and program development, as well as instructional design
  • Online Education or instructional technology experience
 

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Active unencumbered RN and Multi-State Compact Nursing State license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from American Heart Association
  GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides leadership and management within the designated program under the direction of the Chair. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
