Academic and Business Services Coordinator

Position Summary

We are seeking a new, full-time (12-month) hire in the Department of Community Health and Health Behavior, in the School of Public Health and Health Professions. With a primary focus in graduate curricula, this position will make contributions to the developmental processes that streamline and proactively enhance graduate student services, along with the scholarship missions of Community Health and Health Behavior and the School of Public Health and Health Professions.

This position will:
• Provide critical support to students, faculty, departmental leadership, and staff, at each phase of the student life-cycle, from the prospective student and admissions phase, orientation, enrollment, academic advising and other student services, through to graduation and transition to career.
• Provide strategic advice to the chair, director of graduate studies and program directors on how to improve graduate enrollment, education and areas of strength for improvement in the graduate student experience.
• Facilitate various administrative tasks affecting graduate students and faculty.
• Assist with the graduate recruitment and admissions process.
• Facilitate the transition of new graduate students, such as outreach on key dates, orientation, and course registration.
• Academic advising to matriculating graduate students including: degree requirements, course options, and the processing of various forms related to degree completion.
• Provide business support to the department, including oversight of all department procurement; air travel, lodging, and itinerary preparation for prospective doctoral students, appointment processing for TA/SA and adjunct instructors, processing of mail and other clerical support as needed.

SPHHP offers programs at every degree level and is the home to departments of biostatistics, community health and health behavior, epidemiology and environmental health, exercise and nutrition sciences, and rehabilitation science. It is one of only a few schools across the country that includes both health-related professions and public health. It has a diverse student body which it is actively engaged in supporting. The School has an energetic equity, diversity and inclusion council and provides professional development opportunities in inclusive pedagogy and other equity-related issues. Faculty and students engage in research and community activities designed to improve the health of populations, communities, and individuals. Faculty in the School also engage with the University at Buffalo Community Health Equity Research Institute.

CHHB departmental faculty research interests include health disparities, emergency preparedness, judgment and decision-making, cancer, obesity prevention, physical activity, diet, sexual and reproductive health, tobacco use and substance abuse. CHHB houses academic programs that include two in person MPH programs ( MPH in Community Health and Health Behavior and Individualized), a fully online Individualized MPH program, and MS and PhD programs in Community Health and Health Behavior.

CHHB has a history of strong collaborations including with faculty from other departments in SPHHP, other Schools in the UB Academic Health Center (Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, Dental Medicine, and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences) and with other University at Buffalo faculty. In addition, they collaborate with community-based organizations, small businesses, health departments and affiliated institutions, including Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute, the Clinical Research Institute on Addictions, the Veterans Administration, hospital systems, and other agencies in the region.

Minimum Qualifications

A masters-level education in community health, health behavior, public health discipline or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD degree in community health, health behavior, public health discipline or a related field
Experience with:
• Administrative and prescriptive advising for graduate students.
• Maintaining student records.
• Managing course schedules.
• Coordinating student events (e.g., orientation).
• Online educational programs.
