Max Tishler Research Professor of Chemistry
The Chemistry Department of Wesleyan University invites applications for the Max Tishler Research Professor of Chemistry in the area of Medicinal Chemistry for an initial appointment of up to four years starting September 1, 2021. This position is supported by an endowed fund established by the family of Dr. Max Tishler as an opportunity for a chemist who has retired from a successful career in pharmaceutical science to join a university. The Max Tishler Research Professor is expected to establish a robust research program that includes mentoring of undergraduate and graduate student researchers and pursuit of external funding. The professor will also have opportunities to contribute to the instructional mission by developing new courses in medicinal chemistry (or other areas of expertise) or by contributing to existing courses. The Tishler Professor will have dedicated laboratory space and access to state of the art instrumentation and facilities. The professor may pursue collaborations and consulting opportunities outside of the university, but is expected to be in residence on the Wesleyan campus at least part-time for in-person interactions with faculty and students. The Max Tishler Research Professorship is unsalaried, but the endowment provides a significant research fund that may be applied to materials or supporting personnel. Applicants from all areas of modern pharmaceutical chemistry with experience in medicinal chemistry will be considered. Candidates who have demonstrated success in working with diverse populations and whose research program would contribute to Wesleyan’s ongoing interdisciplinary programs are especially encouraged to apply. Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college with a diverse undergraduate and graduate student body. The University values both scholarship and teaching very highly.
Candidates must have completed Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry or a closely related field, or have equivalent research experience.
