The University of Washington Bothell School of Educational Studies (SES) invites applications for two Assistant Teaching Professor positions in Educational Foundations and/or Human Development, beginning in the 2021-2022 academic year. The appointments have a 9 month service period (September 16 – June 15) for a three year term. The appointment is renewable with faculty and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs approvals. Assistant Teaching Professor positions have no expectation to maintain an active research agenda and are expected to teach up to 8 five-credit courses across 3 quarters. The position is eligible for promotion, and is directly involved with faculty governance and leadership. Assistant teaching professors are eligible to apply for sabbatical. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Assistant Teaching Professors may teach educational foundations and/or human development in the undergraduate and graduate degree curricula and across any of our School programs: Bachelor of Arts in Educational Studies, Elementary and/or Secondary Teacher Certification programs (post-baccalaureate), and Master of Education (M.Ed.). Disciplines in our programs are varied and include, but are not limited to: human development, multicultural education, education and equity, history and philosophy of education, curriculum theory, design and assessment, English as a second language, special education, and teaching methodology and pedagogy. Successful candidates will be expected to engage in innovative and effective pedagogy (face-to-face as well as hybrid platforms) and will be expected to work effectively with diverse student and community populations. All University of Washington faculty members engage in teaching and service.


Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in education, educational studies, or related field, or foreign equivalent
  • K-12 teaching experience or equivalent professional experience are required at time of appointment
  • A record of teaching excellence and evidence of engagement with current scholarship
  • Experience in teaching with face-to-face and hybrid platforms
  • Experience in or ability to teach lower and/or upper-division core courses that introduce students to interdisciplinary inquiry
