Assistant Professor, Director of Bands - Dana School of Music (Tenure-Track)

Summary of Position:
The Dana School of Music seeks a Director of Bands for a full-time, tenure-track position. The successful candidate will conduct the YSU Wind Ensemble and other instrumental ensembles based upon the candidate’s experience and qualifications; direct the graduate instrumental conducting program; and develop and maintain a national reputation in the field.

Responsibilities:
Direct the Youngstown State University Wind Ensemble; additional teaching responsibilities may include directing the Dana Symphony Orchestra and/or the Youngstown State University Youth Orchestra, and classroom/studio courses consistent with candidate’s area(s) of expertise (e.g., applied conducting and instrumental studies). Foster collaboration and build relationships—regionally and nationally—with music organizations and programs (secondary and collegiate) through touring, adjudicating and conducting honors ensembles, presenting clinics/master classes, offering workshops, and hosting ensembles on campus. Establish a national reputation as a conductor/scholar through creative works, recordings, and/or publications. Participate in faculty committees and governance. Plans, organizes, teaches, and provides feedback to promote and direct student success. Responds to students in a timely manner. Communicates with students, departments and university officials via university provided tools and resources.

Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctoral degree in music by the time of appointment. Artist-level conductor and proven success in directing a wind ensemble and/or concert band.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated expertise in directing an orchestra.
