Title: Veterans Affairs Associate

Position Summary: The Veterans Affairs Associate provides assistance to the Manager of Adult Learners and Veterans Affairs, educational/support services to Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students, coordinates and works as a liaison between the Department of Veterans Affairs, Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC), Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and Volunteer State Community College, ensuring all services for students and college processes are in compliance with Federal and State regulations. Assists in developing and implementing programming designed to recruit and retain Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students in their transition from military to civilian life as they focus on reaching their educational, career, and personal goals. Will assist with Adult Learner students and the TN Reconnect program to help them enter college and achieve their education goals.

Duties and Responsibilities: Primary School Certifying Official. Lead the task of certification of Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students' in VA Once System for accurate and timely payment of education benefits to both the students and the college. Manage and maintain Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students records in VA Once and Banner Student Information System. Track, update, and coordinate changes to student enrollment, payments, and refunds or returns of VA educational benefits. Responsible for preparation and execution of students' records for federal and state compliance and audit purposes. Serve as Veterans Affairs Liaison for the office and the college. Manage and maintain Veterans Affairs email inbox for the office. Manage and track Academic Alerts for Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students. Work collaboratively with Manager and various offices on all the college's campuses to establish best practices for assisting Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students. Collect, prepare, and submit compilation of information for Manager's approval and signature for the college's annual catalog approval packet as mandated by THEC and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Assist Manager in the coordination and leading of V.A. Student Information Sessions/Orientations and other events to aid in the academic success and retention of Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students. Assist in the development and implementation of workshops, presentations, Veterans Day Events, etc. to educate and expand the campus community's knowledge and understanding of the needs of Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students. Complete required number of annual trainings as mandated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Oversee Veteran Student Workers per the rules and regulations listed in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs School Certifying Official Handbook. Assist with the reception of students, guests, visitors, etc. for the college in the Office of Adult Learners and Veterans Affairs. Perform various administrative assistant duties such as answering telephone lines, replying to emails from students in TN Reconnect and main office inbox, developing reports, recordkeeping, maintaining files, purchasing office supplies, etc. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Associates Degree. Two years of office administrative experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior military service or experience working with veterans/military in a higher education environment. Experience working specifically with Veterans and Military-Affiliated Students. Knowledge of and experience working with VA Once System. Experience working with State/Federal agencies and programs. Basic Understanding of Microsoft Office 365 programs such as Teams, SharePoint, etc.

Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective and positive working relationships. Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently. Capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously with emphasis on accuracy and details. Strong skills in the operation of a variety of office machines including personal computers, fax machines, telephones, and multi-function copiers. Detailed oriented with good organizational skills. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Ability to appropriately handle confidential information. Knowledge of and experience working with the Microsoft Office Suite in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Adobe Acrobat. Evidence of working positively and effectively with diverse populations.

Pay Rate: 29,630.00 - 35,560.00 annual salary depending on experience
