Position Summary: Access Programs' Summer Academic Challenge (SAC) is a four-week innovative STEAM enrichment program serving low income, first generation, and student of color primarily from Tacoma Public Schools and Pierce County. Students arrive on June 24, 2021 and finish the program on July 22, 2021. During SAC 2021, classes will be held on the University of Puget Sound's campus as well as online.

Ideal candidates have some experience/interest in STEM disciplines or art, are enthusiastic, and enjoy working with youth in a collaborative student-centered learning environment.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Assist teachers in implementing the new STEAM curriculum
  • Facilitate activities in small and large groups during lunch time
  • Serve as a positive role model for 7-12th-grade students
  • Monitor students before and after the main program activities
  • Chaperone field trips
  • Participate in a four-day orientation before the beginning of the program

Qualifications:
    Must be current undergraduate, recent graduate, or youth development professional (preference may be given to those attending the University of Puget Sound, Access Programs Alumni, and returning SAC staff) Prior experience working with youth from diverse populations is highly desirable Willingness and ability to work collaboratively under the direction of an experienced teaching professional Ability and interest in assisting teachers to implement the STEAM curriculum Can facilitate engaging and enriching activities in small and large groups Can serve as a positive role model for 7-12th-grade students Holds a valid driver's license Able to commit to working for the duration of the four-week program plus a four-day orientation Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community

Compensation and Benefits: Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.

This position is not eligible for benefits.
