Associate Dean for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
(AD EDI) for the College of Health (COH). Direct report to the
Dean of the College of Health and dotted line to the Associate Vice
President for Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
● Full-time faculty position with .50 appointment to one of the
six COH departments and .50 as AD EDI;
● National search, with potential career-line or tenure-line
faculty appointment in any of the six departments in the College of
Health;
● 3-year initial appointment, 9-11 months, with potential for
reappointment.
An inclusive climate is vital to the intellectual rigor, commitment to excellence, and social fabric of the University; preparing faculty, staff, students, and trainees with the evidence-based skills necessary to provide high-quality and high-value care in a world defined by cultural and intellectual diversity.
The mission of the ADEDI for the College of Health
(COH)
1. Facilitates a culture where inclusion fuels innovation, quality,
and rigor, as well as addresses educational inequities in
the COH.
2. Establishes coordinated outreach and inclusion efforts across
the COH that ensure the workplace and academic
environments attract and promote the success of diverse
communities.
3. Works as a liaison by collaborating with committees, leadership,
and individuals who represent EDI initiatives across
campus.
4. Supports COH efforts to reduce disparities through
teaching, research, and outreach programming.
To reach this goal, the ADEDI in the COH is charged with the following:
Student Recruitment, Admissions, and Retention
1. Monitors and supports an inclusive environment by promoting
course work, programs, and policies to ensure students feel
supported in our learning environments.
a. Supports COH student-led diversity and inclusion
initiatives.
b. Supports the development of programs addressing the unique needs
of underrepresented and underserved students. Including but not
limited to:
● Retention and recruitment programs
● Pipeline programs
● Scholarship programs
● Inclusive classroom/environment training programs
● Student support programs
2. Ensures proper procedures are in place to increase and
support diversity among COHstudents.
a. Creates COH-specific initiatives that enhance recruitment
and retention of underrepresented and underserved students.
b. Examines current recruitment policies and addresses barriers
that diverse applicants might face.
Curriculum Support
1. Collaborates with the curriculum committee to ensure departments
have teaching and learning resources.
a. Topics include issues of equity, social/structural determinants
of health, cultural and ethnic diversity, power and privilege, and
institutionalized racism.
b. Encourages EDI topics be included in classes that are
essential and that meet accreditation standards.
Career-Line/Tenure-Line Faculty and Staff Recruitment,
Retention, and Promotion
1. Meets regularly with department chairs and leaders to assist the
individual departments with their equity, diversity, and inclusion
efforts.
2. Supports departments to ensure equity, diversity, and inclusion
procedures are in place for recruitment and retention across
faculty and staff.
3. Supports departments to identify opportunities and ensure equity
in promotion practices across faculty and staff.
Evaluation, Funding, and Scholarship
1. Monitors and reports on metrics to evaluate diverse student
recruitment and admissions.
2. Develops and monitors metrics that evaluate equitable
recruitment, retention, and promotion of faculty and staff for each
department in the college.
3. Contributes to the pursuit of external funding that enables and
enhances equity, diversity, and inclusion programs and
initiatives.
4. Stays current on research, conversations and best practices
relevant to equity, diversity, and inclusion in higher
education.
