Description

The Department of Biological Sciences at Smith College invites applications for a 3-year, benefits eligible laboratory instructor position to begin July 1, 2021. This is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position with the potential for renewal. We seek a candidate with a PhD, or Master’s degree and commensurate research and teaching experience in biological sciences or a related field. The successful candidate should be eager to engage undergraduate students in research-driven introductory and intermediate-level laboratory courses.

We seek a broadly trained biologist with an emphasis on cell, molecular, physiological and genetic approaches to the study of living systems. Teaching responsibilities will likely include the department’s introductory laboratory course focused on Molecules, Cells, and Systems, as well as involvement in a variety of intermediate courses including Cell Biology and Physiology. Laboratory courses across the Biology curriculum emphasize the building of research skills and often use Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs). The successful applicant will be involved in the design of research-based experiences in their specialty, as well as in the broader design of new laboratory courses.
