The Department of Instruction & Curriculum Leadership in the College of Education seeks an Instructor of Elementary Urban Education. This is a full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure track faculty appointment starting on August 16, 2021.  The expected teaching load is five courses per semester of the academic year and two courses in the summer.  This position includes spending productive time in partner elementary   schools.  The desired candidate will have experience in the content area of elementary teacher education, urban teacher education, and field-based teacher education.  The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to high quality teaching and service at a large research-based institution that integrates high leverage practices into their coursework and professional development.  The candidate should have knowledge of the edTPA, university teaching experience (including face-to-face, hybrid, and online learning environments), and teaching experience with K-5 children and families from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds and have a commitment to preservice teacher preparation programs that directly lead to licensure.  The applicant should be committed to (1) diversity, social justice, and equity in order to promote effective learning; (2) culturally relevant practice; (3) engaging history and present social inequities and uses reflective practice to challenge their work and explicitly confront social inequality; and (4) reflecting on their own identities in relationship to social justice as it pertains to local, national and/or global contexts.  (Position 009257)

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate Special Education field-based methods courses on or off-campus or online.
  • Mentor and supervise teacher education candidates in field experiences and residency in PK-5
  • Provide professional service to surrounding community partners, programs and urban

SALARY & BEGINNING DATE

Salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications.  The position 009257 is a twelve-month non-tenure track faculty appointment with anticipated start date of August 16, 2021.  The University offers an excellent benefits package including healthcare and retirement.  The state of Tennessee has no state income tax, and the Memphis area has a very reasonable cost of living.
