Job Summary:
The Department of Sociology at Furman University invites applications for a 1-year Visiting Assistant Professor position beginning Fall 2021.

Job Description:

A Ph.D. in Sociology by time of appointment is preferred but not required. Research and teaching specializations are open, although we are particularly interested in candidates who can offer courses related to criminology, law and society, and/or deviance. The individual we seek is dedicated to excellent teaching in a liberal arts environment and welcomes opportunities to work with students as peers and partners in learning. Our faculty have committed to be inclusive mentors who equip our students with a robust understanding of inequality in order to prepare them to live and work in a diverse world. Teaching load is 2-3.

Candidates should submit a cover letter, C.V., contact information for three references, a teaching statement, and a diversity statement. The teaching statement should outline how the candidate puts their teaching philosophy into practice in the undergraduate classroom. The diversity statement should describe how the candidate's teaching, scholarship, mentoring and/or service might contribute to a liberal arts college community that includes a commitment to diversity as one of its core values.

Before submitting their application, we strongly encourage candidates to familiarize themselves with our departmental curriculum and Furman's strategic vision, The Furman Advantage.

Application review will begin 1 March 2021, but applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
