Job Summary:
To provide support for the Furman Humanities Center and Art Department full time throughout the year.

Job Description:

Shared administrative support to facilitate strategic coordination of Arts and Humanities
programming for faculty, staff, and students; program coordinator contributes to larger goal of raising
profile of arts and humanities at Furman and expanding interdisciplinary student opportunities
central to The Furman Advantage and that celebrate the diversity of our campus. Both the Furman
Humanities Center and Art Department seek to enhance engagement across campus and with the
larger community, which requires specialized administrative and program support. In sharing this
position, we can more efficiently coordinate our initiatives to leverage our current facilities and
endowed speaker funds.

Common responsibilities :
● Acts as the point person/contact for anyone reaching out to the Furman Humanities Center
and/or the Art Department. Facilitate contact with the larger community.
● Answers telephone, e-mail and voice mail ; greets people by answering questions, taking
messages or referring to the appropriate person. Able to provide introductions to the
Humanities Center and Art Department missions, events, and programs.
● Generates clerical correspondence, events coordination, marketing, press releases etc. to
support faculty.
● Completes work order requests and follows up with facilities, IT, or maintenance to ensure
requests are completed.
● Performs administrative functions through our internal management system including but not
limited to hiring students, contract workers, faculty, travel, etc.
● Contributes to the development of future projects and initiatives that will cross-fertilize
programming and student opportunities within the arts and humanities, and integrate other
disciplinary partners.
● Coordinates Art events and FHC calendar.
● Creates and edits websites; manages social media accounts.
● Assists with supervising and processing student workers, student interns, and student fellows.
● Maintains mailing lists for students, faculty, general public, and alumni.
● Manages budgets.
● Processes purchases and other payments through our internal management system.
● Facilitates grant reporting, financial reporting, and data collection.
● Coordinates with Human Resources to onboard visiting lecturers, artists, fellows, and other
long-term external partners.
● Follows university safety procedures and policies.
● Completes performance review process with supervisors to understand job performance
expectations and how they fit into the department, center, and university goals.
● Performs other duties as assigned.
Specific Humanities Center duties:
● Coordinates larger FHC events, whether in person or teleconference, including ordering
catering, setting up for events, RSVP lists, etc in conjunction with FHC Director.
● Assists with conference organization.
● Facilitates FHC assessment and fellow/participant reflection prompts for grant reporting.
● Coordinates and publicizes annual and ad hoc scholarships and awards.
● Assists with programming and operations for Humanities Lab and Humanities Seminar.
● Maintains grant and fellowship processing forms, including student fellow waivers, contracts,
award notifications, etc.
Specific Art Department duties:
● Coordinates calls for g allery proposals and manages the selection process including
coordinating the calendar with the artists and Furman's academic calendar.
● Accepts and coordinates payment for artwork.
● Maintains supply of printed materials and forms required by students and faculty, such as,
locker sign out, camera sign out, major declaration forms etc.
● Assists with events in the art department. Ordering catering, setting up for events, RSVP lists,
etc. in conjunction with Associate Director.
● Assists with class registration and classroom management for the art department.
● Manages, markets, coordinates, and plans summer Art Entrepreneurship Boot Camp.

Relationships :
Works with co-workers, student workers, faculty, students, fellows, alumni, parents, the
University Communications Office, and the public to exchange factual information and
explanation of rules, regulations, practices or functions.
Frequent contact with the general public, alumni, parents, and other departments to exchange
factual information and explanation of rules, regulations, practices or functions.

Responsibility for Final Decisions :
Responsible for own work. May assist or instruct others, including student workers, doing
similar work.
Tasks involve multiple procedures with interrelated processes or steps. Work involves choosing
the appropriate option or procedure to follow and applying established rules and procedures.
Errors are readily detected in the normal course of work by standard check or crosscheck.

Reports To: Chair of the Art Department and Director of Furman Humanities Center
Work is performed independently on routine assignments; non-routine issues or questions are
referred to the relevant supervisor.

Education/Skill Requirements :
College graduate preferred, ideally with 1 - 2 years experience in a related field.

Arts or Humanities background is helpful.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.

Preferred Experience:
Adobe Suite/Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office, and Mac

Work Conditions:
Work is performed under usual office conditions.
