The Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at Concord University invites applications for a position in Physics beginning August, 2021 (tenure-track, open rank). The candidate will develop and teach: Introductory physics sequences and affiliated laboratory sections for science, health, and computer science majors; general education astronomy; and an online course in physical science focusing on chemistry and physics for elementary education majors. An opportunity to develop and teach upper-level courses for a minor in physics is possible. Applications are open to any subfield of physics, although the position would be ideal for those with a background in physics education. A Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field is required; ABD applicants may be considered. Open until filled.

Concord University is a public, liberal-arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 2000 students. The University is located in a scenic, small-town setting in the mountains of southern West Virginia with access to year-round outdoor recreation activities. The Department offers degree programs in environmental geosciences and chemistry, and a minor in physics. The Department values and supports innovative teaching and undergraduate research and seeks candidates with similar ideals. A diverse array of instrumentation for teaching and undergraduate research exists, including an observatory, electron microprobe, AFM, facilities for instrumental chemistry, a teaching computer lab with MATLAB, and equipment supporting field geophysics.
