The Instructional Design Technologist plans, develops, and delivers instructional technology training, documentation and technical support to facilitate effective pedagogical approaches in the design and delivery of course content; supports faculty with instructional design consultation and guidance in the development of academically effective content using current and emerging technology; provides technical and functional administrative support for instructional technology applications and the campus Learning Management System and serves as liaison between eLearning, faculty, staff and campus technology constituencies; and researches, evaluates and advises on current and emerging trends and developments in instructional technology relative to instructional design concepts.

Duties include, but are not limited to, assessing technology training needs and applying research-based learning theories, proven instructional design principles and best practice guidelines in the use of instructional technology; designing, delivering and evaluating instruction to faculty and staff through a variety of methods; assisting new and returning faculty with course evolution and enhancements that best support student learning; communicating with internal and external constituencies; analyzing and developing user documentation and training materials related to instructional design standards and relevant technology; providing technical support to faculty and staff related to technology-based content delivery tools; providing administration for instructional technologies including diagnosing and resolving application issues and scheduling upgrades; and developing relationships with vendors and other partners, as well as providing support and consultation for campus initiatives related to instructional design and technology.

Other duties include participating in committees; meeting with vendors; communicating with publishers; assisting other divisions as needed; and contributing to various projects.

This is an exempt, professional staff position.

A master’s degree and five to seven years of relevant work experience are required.  Other requirements include:

  • Fluency with Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Digital media production and editing skills for instructional use
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design principles
  • Fluency in learning management systems (LMS)

Preferred qualifications include experience in LMS administration and support, including developing and delivering faculty instructional technology (3rd party) training; help desk support; and creating liaisons with faculty and students with a preference for experience in working with continuing education, workforce training, and/or adult education.
