Coordinator, Office of First Year Programs & Leadership Development

Marist College welcomes applications for the position of Coordinator in the Office of First Year Programs & Leadership Development. The Coordinator serves as an integral member of the Student Affairs team on-boarding experiences including orientation, welcome week, program development and the transition of all first-year undergraduate students, including transfers and commuters, on the Poughkeepsie campus. The selected candidate will also facilitate the adjustment of students academically, socially, and personally to Marist College.

 Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree required. 1-3 years of experience in Higher Education or related field.

 Essential Functions:

  • Assists students in making the academic, personal and social transition to college via individual meetings and group consultation, providing connection to campus-wide resources and faculty and other educational engagement opportunities that foster academic persistence.
  • Develops student leadership skills by providing opportunities to lead productive lives via First Year Program and Leadership Development’s Peer Mentors, Student Executive Boards, Orientation Leaders, and Commuter Student Council.
  • Responsible for the development, coordination and execution of key campus wide events including orientation (both June and January) and Welcome Week.
  • In accordance with the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education, First Year Programs and Leadership Development provides programs throughout the academic year via our Personal Development Core which develops the intellect, character, skills and community essential to student success.
  • Responsible for large scale projects focusing on first-year student success, examples include the Peer Mentor Program, Faculty Supper Series, newsletter and social media, Transfer and Commuter populations, as well as other at-risk campus populations.
  • Responsible for administrative responsibilities including outreach, report writing, assessment, planning, and budgeting.
  • Responsible for other job related duties as assigned including but not limited to committee work, event attendance and support of campus wide initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Higher Education or related field. 3-5 years of experience in Higher Education.

The Office of First Year Programs & Leadership Development (FYP & LD) is dedicated to assisting first-year students in their transition to Marist by addressing the social, cognitive and emotional challenges they encounter. New students are guided in their intellectual and personal development through campus wide projects such as Orientation and Welcome Week, as well as through a variety of academic and social programs involving small group and one-on-one interactions. FYP & LD works with all class years by offering opportunities for leadership development to all interested undergraduate students by providing skills and experiences essential for lifelong leadership engagement. Mentor relationships are continued with students in subsequent years as they endeavor to succeed academically, become influential leaders, and develop into well-balanced citizens of the Marist and World community.
