Job Description

The Business Analyst / Project Manager (BA/PM) as a member of the Information Technology Enterprise Systems team is responsible for projects and services across the Virginia Tech Advancement Division. The BA/PM identifies process improvement opportunities for the Advancement Division by analyzing current processes and business requirements, documenting business processes, measuring process performance, and recommending and communicating process solutions for an improved future state. This position frequently performs both the business analysis and project management roles on a project. This position coordinates and manages projects according to plan within the agreed scope, budget, and timeline defined by sponsors while incorporating best practices. A successful candidate will demonstrate effective leadership, exceedingly well-established communication and interpersonal skills, and proven experience with project management and business process analysis.

Job Responsibility:
• Defining and communicating project success across functional organizations, technical units, and vendor partnerships
• Business analysis, engaging with stakeholders to evaluate and improve university processes, systems, and services
• Collaborating with process owners and users to evaluate and design process improvements, ongoing assessments, and facilitate business transformation and innovation
• Helping to implement effective technology solutions by determining requirements and communicating them to stakeholders
• Performing user acceptance testing for new or updated applications to meet tight deadlines
• Creating project plans, status reports, and project documentation that meet customer and team communication requirements
• Identifying issues and driving risk resolution (remove impediments) for projects and processes
• Building and managing relationships with stakeholders, directors, and team members within a matrix team
• Performing proactive scope management and change management processes
• Collaborate with Advancement senior leadership team on creating, updating and tracking division technology product plan (roadmap) process
• Work with program directors to evaluate new technology for suitability, potential integration to existing technology and project implementation scope
• This position ensures that projects and services follow Virginia Tech’s standards and adhere to industry best practices

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Business, Finance, Business Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field with relevant work experience
- Experience in business process analysis, including requirements planning, analysis and documentation, and the application of information technology to solving business needs
- Demonstrated success leading full life-cycle project management for medium to highly complex projects using best practices
- Experience successfully working with small project teams
- Experience in creating and maintaining project deliverables such as project charters, project plans, status reports, risk management plans, and project documentation
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills while working in a fast-paced, rapid-change environment
- Experience managing scope, time, and resources using standard commercially available tools like ServiceNow, Microsoft Project, TeamDynamix, etc.
- Analytical skills to quickly and accurately evaluate process effectiveness and make appropriate adjustments or recommendations
- Demonstrate sharp attention to detail and initiative

Preferred Qualifications

- Business Analysis certification or successful completion of recognized business analysis curriculum (BABOK)
- Six Sigma or Lean certification or successful completion of a recognized business process curriculum
- Project Management certification or successful completion of recognized project management curriculum (CAPM, CSPO)
- Experience with advancement business processes and/or technology systems such as the Blackbaud CRM
- Experience with business processes and applications supporting higher education
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Experience with fundraising applications and systems
- Knowledge of change management
- Experience managing direct reports and influencing across teams to achieve a common goal
