Instructional Assistant

Assist in curriculum development, lesson planning, gathering materials for projects, parent conferences, and developmental evaluation of children. The instructional assistant is expected to be actively involved in all aspects of the classroom. They must actively engage and interact with children in a positive, energetic and encouraging manner.


Knowledge: 90 hour certificate in early care and education field from State of Maryland accredited program required. Must have or be pursuing an Associate or Bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related field. Must be 21 years or older.

Experience: Two years' experience in a daycare/preschool setting. Must successfully undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment fingerprinting.

Skills/Aptitude: Must be able to participate in team-teaching approach and to communicate effectively with parents and children. Must be able to reach a child 20 to 30 feet away within 30 seconds without endangering the staff person's health either indoors or outside on the playground. Must be capable of lifting a weight of up to 40 pounds. Must be able to walk, climb stairs, squat, kneel, sit on floor, bend, stoop, stretch, push, pull, see, hear, and speak with children to engage them during instruction and to ensure children's health and safety.

Working Condition: Preschool/daycare center environment.
