Position Summary

The Health Services department at the University at Buffalo is seeking a Clinical Information System Specialist ( CIS Specialist) to provide specialized support for the electronic medical records system. This position will be charged with working with Health Services administration, clinical staff, operational staff as well as UB Information Technology specialists and the vendor of the current electronic medical records system.

Key responsibilities include:
• Manage system access, options and overall configuration, as well as review, develop and/or improve overall electronic medication records configuration and workflow.
• Work with the administrative team to establish standard reports and work with the vendor to enhance the ability to analyze data within the system.
• Coordinate with other individuals at Health Services to plan and implement (including appropriate staff training) significant electronic medical records system projects.
• Will be the primary liaison with the electronic medical records vendor to facilitate the effective and efficient use of the system.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Technology/Systems, Computer Science or related field. Requires Minimum of three years’ experience in a healthcare setting providing clinical application support. Included in this experience should be direct experience with electronic medical records systems, and bi-directional HL7 interfaces. Experience providing medical data analysis and reporting in support of patient flow and quality improvement initiatives is also required.

OR

Master’s Degree in Health Information Technology/Systems, Computer Science or related field, a minimum of 1 year of direct experience with electronic medical records systems, and bi-directional HL7 interfaces. Experience providing medical data analysis and reporting in support of patient flow and quality improvement initiatives is also required.
