Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in education, psychology, or related disciplines with a focus on secondary or higher education, special education, and/or learning disabilities or related cognitive differences.
  • Teaching experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of academic success strategies.
  • Experience working with students in higher education settings, more specifically, neurodiverse learners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Disco Student Learning Center provides holistic support for all students at Appalachian State University, empowering them to become active participants in a transformative education to meet their academic goals and achieve their academic potential.

The primary purpose of this position is to provide academic support to undergraduate students, including, but not limited to, intensive intervention and mentoring to undergraduates with executive function challenges.

Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Service provision to As-U-R students, supervision of paraprofessional employees, coordination of program activities and interfacing with other campus offices to facilitate services for students.
  • Serve as a point of contact for students, families, and University faculty and staff in regards to the As-U-R program.
  • Develop and teach elective courses each fall and spring semester addressing academic success topics. Teaching summer courses as needed. Courses may be offered as both in-person and/or online courses.
  • Provide support for collaborative training and student consultation within the Student Learning Center.
  • Provide workshops upon request on academic strategy topics.
  • Maintain continued collaborations with College STAR (Supporting Transition, Access, and Retention).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Suggested Salary Range $42,000-$48,000 Physical Demands of Position
