Job Purpose
The Head Women’s Basketball Coach/Instructor is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Athletics & Physical Education. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for implementing and directing all phases of a competitive Division III program. This includes recruiting student-athletes, organizing and planning practices and game strategies, scouting, coaching, scheduling, budgeting, and planning team travel, all in compliance with College, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
The Head Women’s Basketball Coach will possess a sound commitment to the academic and athletic mission of the College, along with the ability to teach, motivate, evaluate and recruit high caliber well-qualified student-athletes. The coach will provide leadership in the personal, academic and athletic development of student-athletes and will facilitate a positive, competitive student-athlete experience.
The Coach must be committed to the Division III philosophy and to having an active role in department, campus, and community.

What You'll Do
Coaching & Teaching (50%)
- Prepare, plan and conduct all team practices and
competitions.
- Teach sport-specific skills and strategies.
- Scout future opponents and prepare student-athletes for
competition.
- Evaluate, coach, motivate, and mentor student-athletes through
effective communication, sport knowledge, and interpersonal
skill.
- Understand team dynamics and create a positive team culture
among a diverse group of individuals.
- Perform secondary physical education teaching responsibilities
within the department as needed.
Recruiting (25%)
- Identify and recruit of quality student-athletes who fit the
academic profile of the Lewis & Clark student body and will
contribute athletically.
- Oversee program's recruitment plan, social media accounts and
prospective student-athletes' visits to campus.
Administration (15%)
- Demonstrate commitment to the Division III philosophy and play
an active role in department, campus, and community.
- Serve as a mentor to athletes, helping to resolve academic and
non-academic issues.
- Monitor and counsel student-athletes regarding academic
progress.
- Oversee team and department activities, including community
service, team building, players.
- Represent the team with the public, parents, and alumni; act as
a positive role model for
- Operate program within budget.
- Oversee travel arrangements for the team within Lewis &
Clark and NCAA policies.
- Demonstrate a culture of inclusivity for all individuals and a
commitment to a diverse community
- Perform secondary administrative responsibilities within the
department as needed.
- May participate in NCAA compliance, assessment, and/or
reporting activities.
Assistant Coach Supervision (10%)
- Provide day-to-day supervision and evaluate the performance of
assistant coaches.
Must Haves
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum three years collegiate coaching experience
- Minimum two years collegiate recruiting experience
- Strong communication and motivational skills
- Demonstrate a philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities
and progression for student-athletes.
- Ability to identify athletic and academic talent
- Experience with budget management and fiscal planning
- Acceptance of all individuals and a commitment to valuing and
helping to create a diverse community.
- First Aid & CPR certification required
- Thorough understanding of NCAA Division III academic standards,
admissions and financial aid procedures
- A strong understanding of the skills, strategy and tactics of
the sport and ability to effectively teach and relay knowledge to
student-athletes.
Nice to Haves
- Five years collegiate coaching experience
- Experience teaching physical education activity classes.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
