POSITION DETAILS

Brooklyn College, a vibrant senior college of the City University of New York, invites applications for the position of Assistant Vice President for Facilities. Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration (SVPFA), with latitude for independent judgment and decision making, the Assistant Vice President for Facilities is responsible for overseeing activities related to the physical plant. The incumbent must work closely with the SVPFA’s Cabinet, key leadership, and management across the College to provide information and services.

The Assistant Vice President for Facilities duties include but are not limited to:

  • Direct daily operations of Facilities Planning and Project Management/Architectural functions.
  • Direct daily operations of the Heating Plant, the Chiller Plant, and Engineering functions. This includes the physical plant infrastructure, HVAC, engineering specifications, and project oversight.
  • Direct daily operations of Buildings and Grounds. This includes custodial services and trades (carpenters, electricians, cement mason, painters, and plumbers).
  • Provide facilities leadership related to COVID-19 reentry and be a key member of the team focusing on these efforts.
  • Serve as campus lead for the implementation of the Fresh Eyes recommendations from the energy efficiency study done by Aramark and for Facilities Infrastructure improvements. Work collaboratively with the University’s Office of Facilities Planning and Construction Management, Office of Sustainable CUNY – CUNY Conserves, Energy Consultant, and New York Power Authority (NYPA).  Track progress of initiatives.
  • Act as campus liaison for all capital projects managed through University’s Office of Facilities Planning, Construction, and Management (FPCM).
  • Oversee campus in-house facilities projects.
  • Responsible for elevator maintenance to insure safety and compliance.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for facilities project management, engineering operations, and buildings and grounds that include the development and monitoring of key performance indicators.
  • Create and implement an outcomes assessment plan for areas under the AVP’s jurisdiction.
  • Review budget, staffing and OTPS, for areas under the AVP’s jurisdiction and make appropriate recommendations related to daily operations and emergency needs.
  • Drive collaborative campus effort to implement a successful space management strategy.
  • Synthesize complex information into presentations and reports for various audiences.
  • Implement customer service and communications plan for employees under the AVP’s portfolio.
  • Assist the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration in the development and implementation of strategic and operational plans.
  • Document all processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Attend University meetings and communicate relevant information.
  • Perform all other tasks assigned by the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration. 

QUALIFICATIONS

This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan.  All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in engineering, architecture, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Five to ten years’ experience at a managerial level position in engineering or facilities project management.
  • Experience and knowledge in facilities planning, design and construction, utilities and infrastructure operations, energy management, buildings and grounds, and the supervision of these areas.
  • Demonstrated evidence of ability in the management of a multi-facility complex and the delivery of responsive customer service.
  • Experience in team building and staff development.
  • Experience in providing exceptional customer service.
  • The ability to establish effective and productive working relationships with diverse campus constituents, CUNY, and other agencies.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to communicate with diplomacy and tact.
  • Proven record of working successfully with people from diverse backgrounds in a collaborative manner.
