The CSU Pueblo Department of Mathematics and Physics stresses excellence in undergraduate teaching, while supporting faculty scholarship as an essential part of the task of leading leaning and advancing knowledge.  It offers programs in Mathematics, Mathematics for Secondary Education, and Physics. It also offers a numerous courses in service of numerous other campus programs, including one or two graduate courses each year. 
 
CSU Pueblo may terminate this position, without penalty, if sufficient funds are not appropriated or if there is not adequate financial support for the position.

 

 Description of Job: **All responsibilities of faculty members at CSU Pueblo are in accordance with the Faculty Handbook.  The Faculty Handbook is the authoritative guide on specific requirements with regard to teaching assignments, scholarly activity, research, and service.

Responsibilities of this non-tenure track, nine month (with summer teaching possibly available) include teaching 12 credit hours per semester in mathematics and statistics courses; hold five regular office hours per week for students; fulfilling basic service duties to program, college, university and/or profession. Teaching responsibilities include preparing and presenting course materials; administering appropriate tests; evaluating student outcomes; preparing, administering and grading assignments; and assigning final grades.  The position will also involve participation in other departmental service activities, and research as assigned.  

Primary Duties
  • Teach 24 credit hours per year of baccalaureate-level courses in mathematics, statistics and possibly mathematics courses for prospective K-12 teachers; prepare and present course materials; administer appropriate tests; evaluate student outcomes; prepare, administer and grade assignments; assign final grades.
  • The position will also involve participation in other departmental activities. Engaging in scholarly activity that enhances curricular offerings, current levels of basic or applied research, external levels of funding, opportunities for student research or internship, and/or standing of faculty and programs amongst peers in their discipline.  Activities recognized as scholarship should involve peer evaluation and/or dissemination.  
  • Participating in the self-governance of department/college/University, contributing to the professional service responsibility of the University with the local community and/or the service needs of professional organizations within the discipline, and academic advising.   

 

 Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights: Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctoral degree in mathematics or related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in university level mathematics.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate course work in statistics.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in university level statistics.
