Residential Learning Coordinator – TRINsition Fellow

Position Summary
The Office of Student and Community Life is accepting application to fill 3 Residential Learning Coordinator – TRINsition Fellow positions. The Residential Learning Coordinator–TRINsition Fellow (RLC-TRIN Fellow) role is a vital element of the Bantam Network Residential Learning Community, responsible for creating, facilitating, and assessing programs, initiatives, and administrative processes that align with the academic curriculum and with the mission of the Bantam Network. In alignment with the mission and goals of the Bantam Network, the RLC-TRIN Fellow will help students make meaningful connections to resources that may positively impact their Trinity experience.

The RLC–TRIN Fellow will promote learning opportunities and encourage students to behave in a manner that reflects our community values (Academic Achievement, Personal and Social Responsibility, Cultural Competence, Health and Wellness, and Community Engagement). In addition, the RLC-TRIN Fellow will support our community’s commitment to providing a safe environment for students; one in which they can respectfully exchange ideas, collaborate, reflect, live, and learn together.

We seek to have our staff reflect the changing demographics of our student body. Trinity College is a highly selective, independent, nonsectarian liberal arts institution located in Connecticut’s capital, Hartford. With over 2100 full-time undergraduate students and 91 graduate students, the College maintains a rigorous academic profile complemented by a vibrant and diverse co-curricular program. The College enjoys the benefit of being situated in an urban center and has strong academic, social, and philanthropic connections to our home city of Hartford. Our student body is diverse, representing 41 states and 70 countries with 21% students of color and 50% women. Just over 90% of students live in campus residences. Duties and Responsibilities
Under the leadership of the Director of Housing Operations and Director of The Bantam Network, the RLC–TRIN Fellow fosters an inclusive living and learning community that contributes to students’ academic achievement and personal growth. Although the majority of the position will function as described in the job description, some aspects are subject to change due to evolving departmental needs.

  1. Community Standards
    • Assist students with understanding their responsibility to uphold the Integrity Contract as members of the Trinity community.
    • Facilitate the student conduct process consistent with college policy. This includes administering the formal disciplinary processes and addressing informal concerns.
    • Participate in both the Administrator and RLC-TRIN Fellow on-call rotations and serve as a member of the crisis response team. Serve as a hearing officer or as part of an administrative judicial panel as the need arises.
  2. Collaborative Partnerships
    • Collaborate with members of the campus community to provide students with holistic programs and support services. Serve on committees as requested.
    • Partner with colleagues from across campus to help students transition and acclimate to Trinity, as well as learn about opportunities while enrolled. Areas of focus include Experiential Learning & Academic Support, Residential Learning & Transitions, Spiritual & Religious Life, Leadership Development, Community & Civic Engagement, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Wellness, Safety & Support, and Financial Wellness & Transitions.
  3. Programming
    • Coordinate programs that foster community engagement in alignment with the Bantam Network and individual nest identities.
    • Administer and assess the implementation of the Bantam Network Residential Learning Community programming model, which promotes our communal principles: Inclusivity, Care, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
    • Conduct ongoing program evaluations. Assist residential student staff in developing and planning programs that meet the diverse needs of our community.
  4. Training and Supervision
    • Coordinate and assess the recruitment, selection, and training of Resident Advisors.
    • Share supervision of student staff in assigned areas and conduct mid and end of year evaluations of Resident Advisors.
    • Facilitate weekly meetings with assigned Resident Advisors to develop and review goals/outcomes achieved, discuss issues, recognize contributions, provide and solicit feedback.
    • Provide Resident Advisors with professional and leadership development experiences and opportunities, that challenge and support their development.
  5. Operations and Administrative Processes
    • Oversee the day to day functions of residential communities, budget management, assess the efficiency of administrative processes, and manage payroll for residential student staff.
    • Collaborate with Residential Operations and facilities as needed. Coordinate fire drills facilitate health and safety inspections, as well as coordinate the damage billing process from room inspections and room condition reports.
    • Coordinate the summer housing program, including but not limited to summer housing assignments, billing, and the on-call schedule. Coordinate the opening and closing of residence halls, as well as assist with early arrivals and extended stay requests.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate is expected to have broad and relevant experience in activities planning, student advising/mentoring, and student leadership. A good understanding of liberal arts communities is preferred. Most importantly, good candidates should have a passion for mentorship and deliberate interaction with students. The following should be included in the candidate’s skill set:

  • A Master's degree in student affairs, counseling, higher education, college student personnel, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2-years of relevant experience
  • Strong commitment to the liberal arts experience along with evidence of an appreciation for working in a diverse community.
  • Ability to adapt leadership style to the unique needs and interests of the student population.
  • While working with students, Fellows must confidentially support students when appropriate.
  • Ability to take initiative to grow, improve, and expand the Bantam Network.
  • Experience in leading a student organization and/or involvement in leadership programs.
  • Experience managing professionalism with staff, faculty, and students.
  • Flexibility in schedule to be able to work some nights and weekends.
  • A willingness and desire to collaborate with the Hartford community.
  • Superior time management skills with a good ability to multitask. Strong problem-solving skills are an important asset.
  • Excellent attention to detail (e.g management of a small budget) and evidence of good judgment and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and across diverse communities is necessary. Candidates should possess solid experience in developing and sustaining positive relationships across the college community.
  • Good communication skills, both orally and in writing are essential.
  • Good proficiency with computers and software programs, e.g. Office 365, Facebook, Instagram, to support departmental goals.
