General Summary/Purpose:

The Johns Hopkins ARVD/C Program seeks a Research Program Coordinator to coordinate clinical research activities on ARVC, an inherited cardiomyopathy that causes life-threatening arrhythmias. The ARVD/C program is dedicated to improving outcomes for patients and families with ARVD/C through 1) excellent multidisciplinary, collaborative research, 2) clinical care, and 3) education and outreach. Under supervision of a research genetic counselor and junior faculty member, the research program coordinator will join our close-knit, multidisciplinary team of 3 faculty and 3 staff to coordinate clinical research activities, including data collection and management, maintaining IRB documents, and carrying out day to day activities of multiple clinical research projects.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with principal investigator to ensure smooth and efficient execution of research protocols.
  • Responsible for the organization, entry, maintenance, and accuracy of all patient clinical data in a timely and ongoing manner.
  • Ensure accurate data abstraction and entry into ARVD/C program databases (Excel, Redcap, GCRC, Qualtrics, Progeny, and SurveyMonkey) through implementation of workflow and quality control procedures. This includes scanning and data entry into multiple databases.
  • Obtain informed consent from eligible participants.
  • Makes suggestions for improving data collection and workflow processes.
  • Ensures quality control of data entry.
  • Works with the study team to develop data collection procedures for new studies.
  • Maintains compliance in protecting patient confidentiality when reviewing, communicating, and accessing clinical data.
  • Supervises work-study students, ensuring compliance with data entry, management, and human subjects training and compliance procedures.
  • Under the direction of the PI, maintains IRB protocols and assists in documentation for compliance with protocols for data and sharing of biological materials necessary for collaboration with outside investigators.
  • Collects outside medical records as needed.
  • Interviews research participants by phone to document medical history, family history, and exercise history.
  • Coordinates and conducts study mailings.
  • Occasionally prepares blood samples for transportation to laboratories within and outside of JHU
  • Assists with preparation, coordination, planning, data collection during, and management of a yearly weekend Patient and Family seminar.
  • Other duties as assigned: This may include filing, ordering / stocking supplies, transporting / shipping samples, copying, posting flyers, and other study-related tasks.
  • The Research Program Coordinator will work as a team member with other research and clinical staff, consistently projecting a professional and courteous demeanor.
  • This position requires close attention to detail and excellent customer service skills in interactions with research participants and staff.
  • The Research Program Coordinator must support the mission of improving outcomes of patients and families with ARVD/C through collaborative, multidisciplinary approaches to research and clinical care.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological/health science/public health field required.
  • Some related experiencerequired.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula:18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience.Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some experience using statistical software desired.
  • Previous experience with a research project of some sort is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and genetic terminology and concepts highly desired.
  • Experience with patient / research participant contact in a community or medical setting desirable.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively over the telephone, by email, and in person.
  • Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with research participants.
  • Excellent customer service and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work well both independently, with limited supervision, and in a team setting.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
