- Develop data management solutions using programming/analytical expertise for a multi-center study of chronic pain, to include maintenance, modification and/or development of applications/solutions. Identify potential problems with study data and collaborate with study sites to resolve issues encountered. Attend consortium meetings and provide updates on status of projects. Merge, create and recode variables to prepare data for analyses, including electronic health record (EHR) data. Manage datasets/variables and perform data cleaning. Be responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of data during data processing. Generally works independently, implementing known workflows. Where examples are not readily available in existing code or online, develop and apply new methods with guidance from Associate Director.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.
- One (1) year of related experience isrequired.
- Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
JHU Equivalency Formula:Additional related experience may substitute for required education. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct programming experience while pursuing education may count towards related experience.
- Significant undergraduate programming coursework or independent project can be considered as related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or Computer Science preferred.
- 2+ years of experience with the REDCap web application in both end-user support and system administration.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of data security issues.
- Understanding issues related to processing and aggregating EHR data.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
- Good interpersonal skills in dealing one-on-one with clients.
- Must demonstrate programming knowledge in SQL, PHP, and JavaScript.
- Must have effective working knowledge of MySQL database.
- Prefer candidate with effective working knowledge of Linux operating system and basic server administration tasks.
- Prefer candidate with effective working knowledge of at least one statistical package such as Stata, R, SAS, or SPSS.
Desirable skills:
- Ability to independently analyze and resolve complex problems
- Ability to balance multiple work assignments/priorities
- Ability to express ideas clearly in oral and written communications.
- Good interpersonal skills in dealing one-on-one with clients.
Schedule: Monday-Friday –8:30am-5:00pm 37.5hrs/Wk – Telecommuting under COVID restrictions.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
