CMC is a comprehensive, public, open-access dual-mission institution offering 136 academic programs ranging from specialized certificates to associate and bachelor’s degrees, a wide range of online, non-credit and lifelong learning courses, as well as extensive concurrent enrollment opportunities in close partnership with neighboring school districts.
Over 15,000 students attend CMC annually, and 40% of degree-seeking students earn a certificate or degree every year. The college’s Latinx enrollment has doubled in six years to 27%, making CMC eligible for federal Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) status. CMC courses are highly personal and many are experiential by design, each with a maximum registration of 25 students.
Colorado Mountain College campuses are located in Aspen, Carbondale, Breckenridge, Dillon, Steamboat Springs, Glenwood Springs, Glenwood Springs-Spring Valley, Leadville, Rifle, the Vail Valley, and Salida. Of these locations, three are residential—Spring Valley, Leadville, and Steamboat Springs — and students in Breckenridge have access to college-owned off-campus housing. CMC campuses are close-knit communities, on average serving between 1,000 – 2,000 students.
The majority of the college’s financial support comes from local property taxes, not tuition or state revenues. Consequently, CMC is uniquely positioned to be entrepreneurial, nimble, mission-focused, and responsive to community and workforce needs. The college’s central administrative office, which supports all campus locations, is located in historic downtown Glenwood Springs, the town from which CMC originally launched in 1965.

Colorado Mountain College is seeking a one-year term, full-time faculty to join our Culinary faculty team at the Vail/Edwards campus. With teaching and learning at the center of what we do, chosen candidates will join a team of 5 full-time faculty and many part-time faculty across four campuses dedicated to inspiring and educating the next generation of highly skilled culinary and hospitality focused employees.
Full time faculty positions are expected to teach a 30-credit hour (170-day contract per Board Policy 4.12) teaching load annually. This is a one year, term employment position with a possible 6-credit release for administrative duties.
Colorado Mountain College has a strong culinary program in the Vail valley. The culinary faculty work under the supervision of the Dean of the Isaacson School of Communication, Arts and Media, as well as have local support at the campus and in the community. This position is based at Colorado Mountain College, Vail/Edwards. This community campus serves traditional and non-traditional students. Surrounded by unique year-round recreational opportunities such as Vail and Beaver Creek Resorts, there are numerous highly rated dining and lodging options, making this an ideal location for teaching and learning in the culinary and hospitality areas.
The successful candidate will assist in managing this program by working with local industry partners and school districts. This position will teach a variety of courses in CMC’s Hospitality and Culinary Management program. Teaching responsibilities include a wide variety of cooking and baking classes, as well as culinary management courses. This program may include teaching and related work on evenings and weekends. Schedules are subject to program needs.
Additional responsibilities may include functions such as: assist with purchasing, inventory, and budget for program; assist with scheduling and coordinating adjunct faculty and staff; facilitate learning in academic, work, and experiential learning environments; collaborate with Food Service Operations, Resort Management, and Culinary Arts CMC faculty. The selected candidate will contribute to curriculum planning and development, manage or assist with special projects, recruitment initiatives and campus events which many include community service events and related functions.
Teaching responsibilities expected of all faculty include: teaching course load as assigned, evaluate courses and assess student learning, meet established course, program and learning outcomes, comply with guidelines and policies, maintain office hours per established standards, develop rapport with students, assist with and participate in advising, orientation and registration activities.
CMC Faculty are expected to engage in scholarly endeavors as well as service activities such as campus and college committees, participation in relevant projects, mentor peers, participate in and assist with assessment activities, program review, student organization, recruiting and retention.
Salary range: $65,686.19 - $80,005.72 depending upon education and experience. Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)
Qualified candidates must be credentialed to teach in this program, or eligible to be credentialed. Examples of ideal qualifications include:
Bachelor’s Degree in Restaurant Management, Culinary Management, Hospitality Management, or a closely related field and three years of professional foodservice or hospitality industry experience.
Special Skills or Abilities: candidate should have a background that includes purchasing, managing budgets, managing programs, and catering. American Culinary Federation, American Hotel and Lodging Association, or related certification preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills, flexibility and collegiality are essential.
Minimum of one year demonstrated teaching/training experience (or equivalent in part-time role).
