The Music Department of the Mason Gross School of the Arts & the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics at Rutgers University invites applications for a candidate with outstanding musical skills and creative vision to assist in the development of a comprehensive band program within the Big Ten Conference, while developing an identity that is unique to the cultural and social diversity of the Rutgers community and surrounding metropolitan area. The position is full-time at the rank of Lecturer, to begin July 1, 2021. Duties include serving as Associate Director of the “Pride of New Jersey” (Rutgers Marching Scarlet Knights), serving as Director of the Pep bands (basketball and volleyball), assisting the Director of the Marching Scarlet Knights and University Bands in all aspects of program administration, teaching courses in instrumental music appropriate to the candidate’s expertise, possibly conducting concert ensembles, and participating in faculty service activities and committee work (as assigned). A critical component of the position will be assisting with educational outreach efforts in the public schools while working to recruit a large contingent of non-majors throughout the university.

An earned doctorate (or ABD) is preferred but candidates with a master`s degree and significant teaching and/or performance experience may be considered. Ability to work in fast paced environment across multiple departments; experience with visual design and instructional aspects of a contemporary marching band; strong recruiting skills; and a commitment to music education. Candidates should have a record of highly successful teaching and performance in collegiate and/or secondary school band programs. Candidates must possess a strong ability to positively collaborate with the Director of Bands and band staff in a team environment with the administration, recruitment, and continued development of a comprehensive university band program.
