Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of IT and in collaboration with the Field Services Manager and Booth Operations Manager. This position is responsible for the maintenance and successful operation of all gate system equipment. The incumbent must have the ability to learn operational and maintenance aspects of the gate systems. The incumbent will understand University parking policies and procedures and deal with the public in a friendly and courteous manner. The incumbent will work closely with fellow Transportation Services PARCS Gate Technicians and Information Technology staff.

Transportation Services provides transportation solutions for Faculty, Staff, Students, and Visitors at the University of Wisconsin-Madison including parking, carpooling, biking, bus programs, and other commuter solutions. Transportation Services manages over 13,000 parking stalls and all the associated infrastructure. The gate systems are provided by two vendors and are utilized on campus and at the UW Hospital. The full system includes 53 lanes and 31 automated pay stations at 15 different garages processing several million parking transactions per year.

The gates system is a complex environment that includes unique hardware, vendor-supplied software, secure networking, customized industrialized computers, and other gate technologies. This environment allows entry and handles payment upon exit at the mixed-use facilities.

Due to heavy usage and climate conditions, maintenance and oversight of the equipment is critical. Hardware failures can lead to traffic back-ups, loss of revenue, and loss of important data. These systems are the foundation of Transportation Services' efforts to maximize revenue opportunities and fully utilize our current parking inventory.

Required Qualifications:
- Experience troubleshooting and supporting either IT or mechanical/electronic systems.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to lift at least 30 pounds.
- Ability to push, pull, reach, stoop, bend, twist, work on feet, and perform manual labor for a sustained length of time.
- Ability to work under adverse weather conditions such as severe cold, extreme heat, rain, snow, and ice.

Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of IP network technology
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Android, and Apple IOS operating systems
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and individually
- Knowledge of electronic systems, such as I/O devices, relays, wiring, and circuit boards
- Knowledge of mechanical system operations, including gears, belts, springs, and motors
- Knowledge of automated gate systems and associated equipment.
- Knowledge of proper uses and techniques for safely using common repair tools.

License or Certificate:

Possession of a valid Wisconsin driver license and a motor vehicle record that meets UW Risk Management standards to drive State of Wisconsin owned vehicles is required.
