Job Summary
The Quality Assurance Editor is a part-time, 25 hour/week position that has the responsibility of performing quality assurance reviews for media created in the Video Services department for the College. Specifically, the Quality Assurance Editor of Video Services will be responsible for proofreading and copyediting media, writing procedures, and creating and maintaining a style guide. As this position is the final point between the video editor and the client, the ability to identify all mistakes and collaborate with the production team toward error-free productions is essential.
REVIEW AND COMMUNICATION – The Quality Assurance Editor of Video Services will review media, including proofreading and copyediting, ensuring proper spelling, grammar, style and tone. The Quality Assurance Editor will collaborate with the production team to ensure that all media adheres to agreed-upon styles, and will have a basic understanding of video editing workflow and terminology, such as title-safe area and types of shots, transitions and graphics.
PROCEDURES AND STYLE GUIDE – The Quality Assurance Editor will work closely with the Production Manager to enforce adherence to standards of style through the writing of procedures and the creation and maintenance of a style guide. The Quality Assurance Editor will collaborate with peer groups, at times representing the Production Manager, in the development of projects with an eye towards aligning the look and scope to the standard of style.
The Video Services Department at JCCC consists of two groups – Video Production and Video Engineering. The Video Production team provides studio and remote productions, single and multiple camera recordings, editing and publishing of video content. The Video Engineering team supports the Production Team. The Video Services department is part of the Academic Support Division, and is recognized as critical to supporting student satisfaction and retention, and student success.
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree in related field
2 years' experience in a related field such as journalism, marketing, graphic design, video production, etc.
Excellent writing and copyediting skills along with an understanding of accepted rules of grammar, style and tone
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Strong communication and organizational skills to coordinate among multiple groups and stakeholders
Ability to write procedures, develop a style guide and contribute to the efficiency of the production team in aligning to a consistent style
General understanding of video production terminology and workflow as it relates to style such as title-safe area and types of shots, transitions and graphics
Flexibility to coordinate last-minute needs that occasionally occur outside business hours and to respond in a timely manner
Time management and problem solving skills to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related discipline
Familiarity with video production terminology
