Assistant Director - Health Education and Wellness, Center for Student Wellbeing
The Assistant Director directly impacts the welfare of students, faculty and staff by educating the campus community about acute and chronic diseases, advocating for healthy living, and promoting involvement in campus and community health programs/events. The primary purpose is to provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary for good health and self-care management. Duties include:
Provide a UTC-centered health education and health-promotion programs dedicated to focusing on issues of health concern relating to nutrition, physical activity, sexual health, wellness, stress management, acute and chronic diseases, and tobacco and vaping.
Collaborate with colleagues from various academic departments across the University to improve, impact and educate the campus community about health and wellness as it pertains to special interest topics or groups; participate in community health interest groups/organizations and create/advice on-campus special interest groups; and work with Communications and Marketing to develop, distribute and maintain social media campaigns for groups such as UTC Healthy Mocs, UTC SmokeFree, and Healthy Living Initiative.
Evaluate individual and community needs through assessments, such as the American College Health Association National College Health Assessment, Tobacco-Free Generation Campus Initiative and ACSM Exercise is Medicine to gain a current profile of health trends within our campus community and satisfaction with the services rendered through our campus departments; and review current data pertaining to health and wellness and access the strengths and weaknesses of the campus community to develop programming.
Maintain, balance and allocate funds to the appropriate health programs and initiatives; supervise one graduate assistant and one work study student; pursue appropriate research opportunities using data from surveys and evaluations; and identify possible health program related grant funding and develop grant proposals.
Design, implement and assess/evaluate presentations for groups such as residence halls, fraternities, sororities and other organizations in an effort to educate students, faculty and staff - topics may include sexually transmitted infection prevention, cancer, nutrition, self-care, stress management, sun damage awareness, smoking cessation, diabetes, and other chronic diseases; and work with the Director of the Center to disseminate findings to the University as well as community stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Demonstrate mastery of knowledge that is critical to the role of a health promotion and education professional
- Ability to teach self-management of health and establish proven successes
- Ability to follow latest developments, arguments, and emerging trends in health education
- Demonstrate knowledge about current certifications and exams related to health education and promotion
- Ability to develop and use social media and web page to promote disease prevention and healthy living

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Sciences or related field of study; and two to three years of experience developing, coordinating and promoting health related programs that encourage self-care management to include experience forming relationships with community health organizations with the goal of integrating students into experiential learning and volunteering opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications: Excellent computer skills including Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Adobe software; excellent oral and written communication skills; experience working within a collegiate population; excellent skills in social media technology and web page development; knowledge and skills in grant writing and management; ability to write learning objectives and measure student attainment; and ability to balance limited budgets and allocate funds where needed.
