The University of Florida, Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics in the College of Medicine, in collaboration with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, is recruiting tenure track biomedical informatics faculty. The current faculty position is open rank but individuals at the level of Associate Professor are especially encouraged to apply. Areas of interest include but are not limited to a research emphasis in clinical and translational research informatics, learning health system, ontology, data integration, clinical informatics, pharmacogenomics, personalized health, human-computer interaction, or data science with biomedical and health data.

Biomedical informatics is a strategic area of excellence with significant growth in the past few years for the University and for the UF Health System. Within the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics, we have grown to nine faculty in biomedical informatics and established certificate, Masters, and PhD programs. In addition, through the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, we provide leadership for Biomedical Informatics throughout the Health Science Center, the Health System, and University. We collaborate closely with a number of Centers and Institutes on campus including the UF Informatics Institute, the UF Health Cancer Center, the 1Florida Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and the McKnight Brain Institute, the UF Institute on Aging, the Diabetes Institute, and the Emerging Pathogens Institute among others. The Division of Biomedical Informatics in the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics has established a project management office and a team of software engineers, data scientists, and analysts, both of which serve as faculty resources for numerous biomedical informatics, departmental, and university-wide initiatives. In addition, the candidate will have access to numerous assets including the OneFlorida Clinical Research Consortium – a PCORI-funded clinical research network – that has a centralized Data Trust with linked electronic health records (EHRs), health care claims, and social determinants of health data for over 15M individuals. Many opportunities exist to conduct research and provide training using the Data Trust. The Division has built a track record of extramural grants and contracts using OneFlorida and its data.

The Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics fosters collaborative relationships with investigators across diverse disciplines, including pediatrics, medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, molecular biology, epidemiology, genetics, behavioral medicine, policy evaluation, and health outcomes research. The Department, with 22 full‐time faculty members and over 100 professional and support staff, provides an exceptional research environment with over $23M annually in extramural funding. The nexus of biomedical informatics and the dissemination & implementation sciences in the Department synergizes the development of meaningful solutions that get translated into practice for improved health.

Minimum requirements are: 1) an MD with a masters degree in biomedical or related field and/or a PhD in biomedical informatics or a related field, including but not limited to computer science, information science, engineering, 2) a track record of investigation in biomedical informatics, and 3) a commitment to pursue an academic biomedical informatics career.

For advanced rank at Associate Professor or Professor, the candidate must also have: 1) significant record of support on external funding, 2) a recognized record of collaborative research, scholarship, and teaching in biomedical informatics; and 3) an established track record as an essential collaborator or core director of NIH or other competitive funded research projects.

Salary and rank are commensurate with experience and credentials.
