Loyola University Chicago (Loyola) seeks nominations and applications to identify user-focused, collaborative, and forward-thinking candidates for the position of STEM and Data Literacy Librarian. This position will serve as library liaison for selected academic departments (possibilities include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Nursing, and Public Health) and programs in the natural and health sciences based on candidate disciplinary strengths, experience, and knowledge; provide cross-disciplinary support for quantitative and data-centric teaching and scholarship; develop, deliver, and assess instruction and other information literacy initiatives; consult with and provide support for student and faculty researchers throughout the research lifecycle; and identify, acquire, and promote scholarly resources to support curricular and research needs. This position also supports general research and learning needs of the university, including information literacy instruction for first year students, and participates in other library programming and information services.

This is a non-tenured library faculty position with opportunities for promotion. The successful candidate will be based on the Lake Shore campus in Rogers Park but will serve users at all campus locations. The Loyola University Chicago Libraries includes the Information Commons, Cudahy Library, and the Library Storage Facility at the picturesque Lakeshore Campus in Rogers Park; Lewis Library at the Water Tower Campus along the Magnificent Mile in downtown Chicago; and a library at the John Felice Rome Center in Italy. The University Libraries has an annual materials budget exceeding $6 million. Collections include nearly two million volumes, 550 databases, 60,000 journals, and a variety of physical and streaming media resources.

Reporting to the Head of Research and Learning Services, the STEM and Data Literacy Librarian will:
-Provide research, learning, and engagement support to selected departments and programs in the sciences, including course-integrated instruction, collection development, and research consultations.
-Provide support for data, statistical analysis, and related technologies, through consultations and instruction, including skills-building workshops for faculty, students, staff, and others.
-Contribute to Research and Learning Services Department projects and initiatives, including creating research guides and instructional materials, advising on the development of library discovery tools, and staffing information desks and services.
-Provide library and information literacy instruction for university programs including first year writing, honors program, and undergraduate research initiatives.
-Work autonomously and collaboratively to meet strategic goals, while consistently promoting teamwork, respect, diversity, and inclusiveness.
-Participate in library and university committee work.
-Actively contribute to the broader profession through scholarship and service.

Qualifications

Required qualifications
-Master’s degree from an ALA -accredited library and information science program or in a relevant discipline or professional area.
-Experience providing library instruction and research support, or equivalent experience with teaching, public speaking, or customer support.
-Coursework and/or experience with key information resources in a variety of scientific disciplines, including resources for data discovery.
-Coursework and/or experience in data literacy or library services that support data management and analysis.
-Demonstrated ability to learn new statistical analysis tools or other relevant tools as needed.
-Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
-Commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in our workplace, as well as in the systems and services we build, as an equity and social justice imperative.
-Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population.

Preferred qualifications
-Additional advanced degree in a STEM field or demonstrated subject knowledge and familiarity with the research methodologies of one or more STEM disciplines.
-Facility with geospatial analysis using GIS tools.
-Experience with visual analytics and data visualization.
-Proficiency with quantitative analysis using statistical software and/or programming languages.
-Knowledge of research data management policies and practices.
