Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities

The Health and Wellness Library Assistant supports the consumer health information and community-based health information outreach efforts of the Health Sciences Library, Research and Education Department. This position services as an assistant to the Health and Wellness Librarian. Additional duties and responsibilities include:

Overseeing day-to-day operations of the VCU Medical Center Health and Wellness Library facility in the absence of the Health and Wellness Librarian.

Opening and closing the Health and Wellness Library and the Health Sciences Library as scheduled.

Using excellent customer service skills to provide accurate directions, information, basic instruction and research services for library users at the Health Sciences Library and Health and Wellness Library.
Referring complex reference or research-related questions to the Health and Wellness Librarian.
Assisting in the supervision and training of Health and Wellness Library volunteers, interns, and student workers in the absence of the Health and Wellness Librarian.
Assisting with coordinating all aspects of Health Sciences Library and Health and Wellness Library outreach initiatives, training programs, or special events including event promotion.
Participating in outreach programs including digital and in-person events.
Creating print and digital materials to advertise and promote programs.
Collecting statistical data, analyses data, and generates reports based on collected data on a monthly or as-needed basis.
Creating engaging content for social media to promote the Health Sciences Library and Health and Wellness Library.
Assisting with website and LibGuide maintenance including updating broken links and preparing content as needed.
Making decisions under general supervision to develop policies and procedures that support the work of the Research and Education Department.
Representing VCU Libraries, Research and Education department by participating in or serving on committees and workgroups as necessary.

Ability to adjust work schedule based on business needs.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience

Preferred Hiring Standards

Knowledge of library operations, policies and procedures;
Experience in a library public service area preferably health sciences related;
Experience working with patients and/or working in a hospital environment;
Experience with data analysis;
Demonstrated experience with project management;
Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Required Licenses/ Certifications Anticipated Hiring Range $35,500-$39,000 Application Process/Additional Information

The successful candidate will be required to adhere to the VCU Health mandatory flu vaccination policy.
This position is located on MCV campus; the successful candidate must be able to travel to the Monroe Park campus as needed.

Campus MCV Campus Hours/Week 40 Normal Work Days/Hours M-F 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; occasional weekend work. Possibility of some remote work options.
