The University of Virginia Darden School of Business, one of the world's leading business schools, seeks an Assistant/Associate Director of Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to join its Admissions team. With strong momentum in the residential MBA and executive MBA formats, the Assistant/Associate Director joins Darden at an exciting time. Darden is ranked the #1 MBA education experience in the United States for nine years in a row by the Economist magazine.

This position will be of part of Darden’s Admissions committee, responsible for activities necessary to market to, identify, evaluate, and select a diverse class of high quality applicants and students in Darden's MBA degree programs.

Partnering with the Senior Director of Admissions for Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, this position will assist in leading and enhancing the diversity recruiting strategy for Darden Admissions.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

Evaluating applications

Reading and evaluating applications for admission into the Darden School of Business

 

Stakeholder engagement

Serve as a representative for Darden to key partnership organizations, execute joint events and activities in partnership with these organizations. Work closely with Darden student organizations to execute and implement engagement efforts with prospective students.

 

Recruiting/Travel

Represent Darden at various alumni and prospective student events, MBA forums/fairs, and other events, including yield events both domestically and internationally.

Execute initiatives within Darden’s effort to increase and enhance our diversity recruitment responsibilities to include developing new tactics and strategies that specifically focus on and target underrepresented minorities, women, military, and LGBT candidates.

Act as a strong Darden Ambassador by traveling to events around the country and world representing Darden at MLT, Consortium, S7, and other Darden specific events.

 

Interviewing

Interview prospective students on grounds and by Zoom. Work with senior director to enhance competency development and training in diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

 

Alumni Relations

Serve as liaison to alumni base and coordinate their involvement with multiple recruitment and yield efforts.

 

Professional experience and education:

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Assistant Director - at least three years of experience in admissions or related field.
  • Associate Director - at least seven years of experience in admissions or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years admissions experience at a high quality higher education institution, or an equivalent relevant recruiting, student services or HR/talent experience in a top corporation or preeminent boarding school preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract, interview and yield highly qualified MBA candidates from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Awareness of the needs and concerns of a selective MBA program are required.
  • Ability to take initiatives and execute high quality actions using judgment and discretion.
  • Global awareness and understanding.
  • Poise, tact, and emotional intelligence to deal with people and sensitive issues.
  • High energy and an ability to make compelling presentations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students and outside stakeholders.
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders and build relationships.
  • Strong technical skills, with experience in a CRM-based function. Slate experience preferred. 
  • Ability to engender trust among internal stakeholders and stakeholders across Grounds, and to work effectively with them.
  • Ability to take initiatives and execute high quality actions using judgment and discretion.
  • Global awareness and understanding.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow up.
  • High energy and an ability to make compelling presentations.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary. Position requires some evening and weekend work, as well as domestic and international travel.
  • Belief in the mission of the Darden School, and passion for the University of Virginia.
