Overview



Employment Status: Full-time, At-Will, "Exempt" position, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some evenings and weekend hours may be required.

Department SummaryStudent Financial Services is one of the departments of Financial Services, the hub of all financial transactions and reporting on campus. Student Financial Services supports the campus community in areas including cashiering, cash handling, delivery of financial aid refunds, student billing and collections, banking and merchant services for university departments, financial reporting, and internal controls. It partners with Financial Aid and Registrar in providing the student with the best possible financial service and counselling in support of the student's educational goals.

Typical Activities

Job Summary
The Student Financial Services will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Student Financial Services Office. The SFS office provides customer service to students regarding their account, disburses financial aid, manages fee waivers, refunds overpayment of fees, and performs collections. Bursar staff provides cashiering services to students, staff, faculty, and Auxiliary Organizations including daily reconciliations. Discuss student issues with Financial Aid staff, Records and various campus departmental staff to handle disputes, questions, and issues brought forth by students and staff through email, telephone calls and in person. Prepare Annual Staff Evaluations. Ensure the desk manuals are kept current. Ensure there are proper segregation of duties and internal controls in place.

Review and approve daily cash reconciliation, credit card reconciliation, and the application fee reconciliation. Review and approve check request for petty cash disbursements, collection agency payments, and student refunds.Provide consultative services to campus administrators in resolving accounting problems; and recommending changes and overseeing upgrades to the cashiering systems. Research and respond to student, staff and faculty questions related to CashNet, and Smartpay. Promote business automation and ongoing process improvement, by using technology and information systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a closely related field or equivalent work experience in a closely related field.
  • Seven years of progressive experience in managing/leading/directing a student financial function within a higher education institution.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Business or related area.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft and system implementations.
  • Experience working in a Higher Education environment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience leading cashiering operations
  • Working knowledge of financial aid programs and associated rules and regulations
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • A demonstrated commitment to process improvement
