Assistant Professor of Psychology

Position Summary:

The Department of Social Sciences at the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau, Alaska invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology to begin in Fall 2021.

Duties: This position will be housed in an interdisciplinary department that includes colleagues at regional campuses in Ketchikan and Sitka. Job duties will include teaching an array of undergraduate courses in psychology; advising and mentoring students as they navigate their degree programs; developing a body of peer-reviewed research and scholarship; and serving the university as well as the broader Juneau community.  

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate must satisfy the following requirements:

PhD in Psychology or a related field (ABD will be considered if degree completion is expected in less than a year).
Ability to teach introductory/survey courses in Psychology.
Ability to teach upper division psychology courses in areas of applicant’s interest and specialization, subject to student interest and program needs. 
Ability to publish peer-reviewed research and scholarship in applicant’s areas of specialization;
A commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence and the ability to deliver effective undergraduate instruction in Southeast Alaska, a post-colonial setting and the cultural homeland of the Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian peoples.

Desirable Characteristics:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following characteristics:

Ability to offer courses with an interdisciplinary focus in areas such as social psychology, race/ethnicity, cultural psychology, and/or political psychology or other areas related to existing UAS academic programs;
Ability to offer survey courses in the Social Sciences, including quantitative methods offerings;
Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes. 
Ability to offer courses in behavioral health;
Ability to offer courses in an online or hybrid in-class/online environment;
Experience working with first generation students, non-traditional students, Native American/Alaska Native/American Indian and other diverse student groups;
Demonstrated ability to live and work in a relatively small, isolated community in a temperate rainforest.
