Position Summary:  

The Princeton University Library seeks two enthusiastic, collaborative, and innovative archival professionals to join Special Collections’ Archival Description and Processing Team. Reporting to the Assistant University Librarian for Special Collections, Technical Services, the Processing Archivists will create, enhance, and manage descriptive data for archival collections, including contributing to the team’s efforts to implement a reparative and inclusive approach to archival description. Processing personal papers, organizational records, and University records will constitute the majority of the workload. The Processing Archivists may also manage large-scale digitization projects and will contribute to collaborative initiatives focused on arrangement, description, digitization, and archival discovery. The Processing Archivists will also participate in the reference rotation, participate on library-wide committees, and supervise student workers.

 

Primary Responsibilities  

  • Process and enhance description for archival collections
  • Manage large-scale digitization projects
  • Propose and contribute to collaborative initiatives at the team level
  • Supervise student workers on archival description projects

 

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree with archival coursework, or advanced degree in an allied discipline combined with relevant experience
  • Hands-on experience arranging and describing archival collections with a focus on modern manuscript collections of varying sizes and formats
  • Knowledge of and experience with relevant descriptive standards for archival collections (DACS, EAD, EAC-CPF)
  • Familiarity with current developments in processing procedures
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks and to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, in a dynamic environment with a diverse group of staff and patrons
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and a commitment to professional engagement and continuous learning
  • Comfort with and ability to learn new technologies
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and serving the needs of a diverse population.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electronic records accessioning, description, and preservation
  • Knowledge and awareness of current trends in the digitization of archival material for access and preservation
  • Experience providing reference services in an archives or special collections
  • Experience with ArchivesSpace, Archivist's Toolkit, or another collection management system
