Job Description:

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Student Activities, The Graduate Assistant is responsible for assisting in the development of programs and initiatives that support student engagement.

This position is temporary for the Spring 2021 semester and is a paid position.

The Student Engagement Mission

The Student Engagement Team fosters meaningful engagement opportunities that challenge, support and empower students to be leaders on campus, in the community, and beyond.

Position Description

As a member of the Student Activities Office (SAO) staff, the SAO Graduate Assistant will work closely with the professional and student staff to develop meaningful experiences that complement the SAO mission and the personal, academic, and professional goals in the Graduate Assistant's graduate program.

The SAO experience offers experiential learning opportunities in a supportive environment in areas such as: student organizational advisement, student leader/employee training, commuter services, event planning, and program evaluation with the opportunity to expand into other areas of student engagement.

The requires 12 hours per week, which includes evening and weekend responsibilities. Hours are to be agreed upon between the Graduate Assistant & Director of Student Activities.

Essential Functions

  • Assist Student Engagement team with planning and implementing campus events and programs;
  • Serve on various campus-wide programming committees such as the Holistic Programming Committee, Spring Weekend, Consent Day, Senior Events, etc.;
  • Assist with the planning of all aspects of student organization leadership trainings and advising;
  • Build and maintain an inventory of materials and resources for student groups and organizations;
  • Assist in maintaining accurate and up to date records of all recognized student organizations;
  • Participate in student leadership trainings;
  • Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with staff, faculty and students;
  • Assist with New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, and Commencement;
  • Support College policies and guidelines;
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Student Engagement.

 

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree;
  • Enrollment in a higher education graduate program or related field;
  • Maintain effective working relationships with college staff, faculty, and students;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Ability to work with a diverse student and administrative customer base;
  • Dependability, punctuality, honesty, and integrity;
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time, and multi-task appropriately;
  • Attend weekly meetings with supervisor.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Previous experience working in a college setting is desirable.

At the College's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the College, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
