St. Lawrence University seeks a qualified candidate for a visiting position in environmental studies at the assistant professor level. The successful candidate will be an interdisciplinary scholar whose academic interest is broadly in human-environmental health. Relevant areas of expertise include: human health effects of contaminants such as pesticides, heavy metals or industrial chemicals; children’s environmental health; food-borne or sanitation related illnesses; human health implications of environmental change; communicable diseases related to human-induced environmental change; global environmental health; or One Health and related subjects.

The candidate should be familiar with both the epidemiological basis of health problems and the policy for solving them, that is, a scholar who connects their science to affected communities and/or policy makers. We are particularly interested in candidates who recognize and investigate disparities in environmental health risk (e.g., by race, class, gender, etc.). GIS and other geospatial skills are advantageous. This person will teach an introductory environmental course, a 200-level course in environmental health, and other courses in the candidate’s field of expertise. Ph.D. or DPH is required.

There are opportunities for this position to contribute to the public health minor, and the nascent public health major. The successful candidate will also have an on-going program of research and published scholarship that may include undergraduate students and should demonstrate a commitment to teaching in the liberal arts. We encourage applications from candidates who bring diverse cultural, ethnic and national perspectives to their scholarship and teaching.

Interested applicants must apply online at http://employment.stlawu.edu uploading all required materials which are defined in the “special instructions to applicant” section.  Review of applications begins April 15th, 2021 and will continue until the position is filled. All offers of employment are contingent upon the finalist successfully passing a background (including criminal records) check.
