Speech and Hearing Science


The College of Health Solutions (CHS) at Arizona State University is seeking a full-time clinical assistant professor (12- month) to join the Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program. Our active and growing AuD program is part of the collection of nationally-ranked Speech and Hearing Science (SHS) programs at ASU. Typical workloads for clinical faculty are consistent with 80% teaching, comprised of didactic classroom-based teaching and clinical supervision in the on-campus clinic and 20% university service; however, candidates with a track record of scholarship and potential for future scholarship may be able to allocate a portion of their time towards research if funding is available. Applicants must present evidence of effective communication skills and a strong commitment to high quality teaching and clinical supervision at the undergraduate levels and graduate levels. This is a fixed-term appointment that is renewable annually.  Subsequent one-year appointments may be offered, under the same terms and conditions, at the discretion of the college and university. 

This position will work with faculty across the college to address our Grand Challenges, complex and difficult health problems which require transformative collaboration, translational research and innovation. Through teaching, academic programs, service and research, the college is focused on these Grand Challenges: Addressing the systems of health care and the health needs of populations, and optimizing health and human performance of individuals across the lifespan. We are particularly interested in making an impact on populations with significant health disparities.

The College of Health Solutions is committed to translating scientific health research and discovery into practice to improve health outcomes through education, research and service. We equip students with the knowledge and skills to influence healthier lifestyle choices; develop creative interventions to improve the health of people and populations; analyze and translate large amounts of health data into solutions; and maximize the technology, science, business and application of diagnostics. Our research programs encompass basic science, discovery science, clinical trials, intervention science and measurement of health outcomes. In all cases, our faculty use interdisciplinary approaches to address the complex systems that underpin health problems. We are highly collaborative, transparent and team-oriented. Current training programs include behavioral health, biomedical diagnostics, biomedical informatics, exercise science, health promotion, health sciences, kinesiology, medical studies, nutrition, population health, the science of health care delivery, and speech and hearing science. Our programs are offered at ASU’s Downtown Phoenix, Tempe, Polytechnic, West and Lake Havasu campuses, as well as on Mayo Clinic’s campus in north Phoenix.

Required Qualifications

  • D. and/or Ph.D. in Audiology from an accredited program and university;
  • Eligible for audiology licensure in Arizona
  • At least 3 years of clinical experience in audiology that includes direct clinical service appropriate for rank
  • Effective communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse group of students, colleagues, and staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and community partners

Desired Qualifications

  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology
  • Teaching experience with on-campus and/or online format
  • Experience with clinical supervision
  • Expertise in pediatric diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology
  • Experience providing bilingual services (e.g. Spanish/English; ASL/English)
  • At least 5 years of clinical experience in audiology that includes direct clinical service appropriate for rank
