In accordance with the College of Education’s commitment to Learn, Challenge, Empower and Transform, Doane University seeks to fill an open position of assistant professor of education (tenure-track), or assistant professor of practice (non-tenure track) with an emphasis on teacher education.
Doane University is seeking a collaborative and innovative individual at the assistant professor rank to serve as a faculty member in Initial Certification at the Advanced Level Programs. A terminal degree (EdD or PhD) in education or a related field is required. The individual will also have a minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in the K-12 schools and it is preferable to have had higher education teaching experience. The individual will provide the leadership, management, and oversight for the identification, development, and support of high quality advanced level certification programs. The individual will teach courses in the Curriculum and Instruction Program and supervision of pre-service teacher candidates. This includes coordinating curriculum with the program director and participating in program assessment.
Doane University includes campuses in Crete, Lincoln, and Omaha, Nebraska. This is a 12-month position and the individual will work primarily from the Lincoln Campus. Job responsibilities include teaching some night and/or weekend courses.
Position Requirements

An earned doctoral degree with a
record of achievement consistent with an appointment at the rank of
Instructor in the College of Education
Minimum of 10 years of teaching
experience in PK-12 schools
Strong interpersonal and
collaborative communication skills
Entrepreneurial spirit for maximizing
capacity in existing programs and creating new academic
opportunities
Successful record of coordinating
course development and instruction, curriculum planning, and
assessment
Ability to set goals, prioritize and
plan work activities, and meet deadlines
Knowledge of state processes for
teacher education
Position Responsibilities
-
Teach “Fast Track”, teacher
preparation courses and other courses as meets expertise
Work with the Enrollment team
to review courses for acceptance in “Fast Track” program
Meet with all students to complete
transcript review and interview (dispositions). Explain the
program and answer questions candidates might have.
Attend spring Orientation Meeting to
help with the students’ registration and questions
Set up field placements - practicum
placements (fall & spring) and student teaching placements
(second fall) and notify students when confirmed
Supervise practicum and student
teaching candidates as well as assign other college supervisors as
needed
Meet with supervisors to explain
expectations
Write any recommendation letters and
faculty evaluations for Credential files as requested
Evaluate assessments - philosophy,
lesson plans, classroom management paper, and
self-studies
Communicate with
supervisors/Cooperating Teachers regarding practicum/student
teaching and enter all grades
Communicate with Cooperating
Teachers one-month before students arrive thanking them and sending
important information - framework, expectations, Doane
standards

professional development
Serve on college and university
committees
