The Budget Analyst will be responsible for providing Directors in the Office with timely and accurate review and analysis of revenue and expense budgets within the University.

Responsibilities also include development and preparation of current and long-range analytical reports; counsel University personnel on questions and concerns regarding budget and financial information as well as policies and procedures.

Additionally, the Budget Analyst will establish and maintain lines of communication with schools, colleges and academic support units necessary for the development and interpretation of information required for accurate analysis and projections.


Bachelor’s degree with three plus years of recent relevant experience working in an academic environment.

BUDGET. Assist in the preparation of annual operating budget, salary category detail files, budget comparisons, variance analysis
and revenue projections for responsibility center and administrative support units. Develop and maintain complex spreadsheets
and integrated financial models used for budgeting and forecasting. Assist with the development of proforma budgets and
long-range budget forecasts for the University. Prepare, process and monitor budget transactions related to responsibility center and administrative support units throughout the year. Collaborate with department budget managers to identify opportunities to improve monitoring and reporting. Recommend and assist in implementation of business process changes to improve planning, monitoring, forecasting and reporting capabilities. Assist with the development of estimated final projections, special projects and scenarios related to the University’s budget plan. Monitor responsibility center and administrative support unit spending, identifying
variances to ensure expenditures do not exceed available resources. Create and run queries to provide financial and budget related information. Assist in year-end closing of University books, as well as annual carryover calculation.

ANALYSIS. Responsible for maintaining comprehensive and timely information to support financial analysis and budget status
reporting. Assist in identifying and researching questionable entries or omissions to make timely requests for correction for financial statement presentation. Perform budget analysis, examine budget proposals and long-range plans for completeness, accuracy
and consistency with established procedures and organizational objectives. Analyze budget reports for anomalies, inconsistencies and trends affecting budget needs. Analyze monthly budgeting and accounting reports to maintain expenditure controls.

COMMUNICATION. Communicate with responsibility center and administrative support unit budget managers regarding budget preparation, previous budget figures, estimated revenues and expenses necessary for accurate reporting. Collaborate with
University personnel across various departments to confirm accuracy and perform research related to responsibility center and administrative support unit budgets, revenue and expenses. Act as a liaison between departments and the Comptroller Office; facilitate the establishment of new chartstrings, correct posting errors and monitor for inconsistencies that may require corrective

REPORTING. Prepare and reconcile ad-hoc reports as requested for internal use. Assist in the preparation of reports such as
responsibility center and administrative support unit operating budgets, revenue and expense projections, and other specialized
financial reports and analysis for Assistant Director, Associate Director, Director of Budget and Planning, the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, the Board of Trustees, and the Chancellor.

SUPPORT. Provide technical assistance, training, tools and support to responsibility center and administrative support units in the
use of financial system budgeting and reporting. Develop tools to support accurate and comprehensive financial analysis and
budget status reporting. Contribute guidance, experience and process recommendations to responsibility center and administrative support unit budget managers to assist in the management of financial resources. Provide analytical guidance, as required, to support operational planning and budgeting. Respond to direct inquiries from the campus community by advising and counseling regarding budgets, financial transactions and University policy and procedures. Provide general administrative support to Budget and Planning Directors as needed.
