About the College/Unit/Department

The Institute is noted for its multidisciplinary approach to graduate education and research. Faculty members have areas of specialization in governance and administration, federal and state policy, institutional and system finance, and faculty careers and development—all with a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion. It offers three programs of study: MEd, PhD & Executive EdD. For more than a decade, the Institute has supported the Georgia College Advising Corps, a near-peer college access program embedded in high schools across the state.

Position Summary

The Institute of Higher Education, pursuant to its mission and values (https://ihe.uga.edu/mission), invites applications for a faculty position to support growing student research interests in critical issues of higher education. The Institute is committed to a multidisciplinary approach, and the successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate-level courses, advise and mentor doctoral students in their studies and research, collaborate well internally and externally, and pursue an active program of research.

Additional Requirements

Candidates should have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree in a complementary discipline (e.g., Sociology, Public Policy, Economics, Political Science, Law, Education, Management) and an active record of scholarship and research productivity commensurate with rank. The ability to teach advanced methods in our qualitative or quantitative research sequences, as demonstrated by at least one semester of instruction experience or through mastery of method evidenced in research portfolio, is also required.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

Preference is for candidates to have a research interest and expertise in one or more of the following:
• Issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education
• Institutional governance, leadership, and change
• International and comparative higher education
• Community colleges
• Minority-serving institutions
• Higher education law and policy

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

We are especially interested in candidates who will advance the multidisciplinary character of the Institute, add substantially to the depth of the faculty, and bring innovative perspectives to the study of higher education. The successful candidate also will have:
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment
• Familiarity, through instruction or research, with current trends and cultural contexts in higher education
• Strong evidence of and potential for attracting external funding

This person will teach, advise, and mentor students in the Institute’s graduate programs; pursue external grant and contract funding to support their scholarship; actively and effectively pursue and achieve publication in appropriate scholarly venues including major journals int he field of higher-education studies; and participate fully in the ongoing academic and governance activities of the Institute.
