Department Summary
WHO WE ARE
The Vivian Olum Child Development Center is a comprehensive program
providing education and care for infants through elementary
school-age children. The center's mission is to serve the needs of
university employees' families by providing a foundation of
experiences that foster growth and development of children and a
safe and nurturing environment for children and families. The
center consists of seven classrooms which collectively serve over
100 children each day. The center is located in the heart of a
vibrant and well-maintained university setting.
Position Summary
WHO YOU ARE
A dedicated educator who loves the classroom setting and helping
teachers to identify, balance and meet the needs of the children
for whom they care with creativity and flexibility. You are
adaptable and resourceful, and enjoy working where those traits are
valued. You should have experience working with young children and
supervising staff who teach in early childhood classrooms. As a
core member of our leadership team, you should feel comfortable
working with a wide variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds
and leveraging your leadership skills to meet the needs of those
who report to you.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
We will rely on you to
manage four classrooms, each with at least two lead teachers and
8-12 children, ages 0-3. You'll provide ongoing supervision,
training and mentorship to the teachers; recruiting, hiring and
onboarding new teachers as needed. You'll communicate with parents
regularly, and work with the administrative team to ensure the
center operates effectively. This includes communicating and
prioritizing the shifting needs of your classrooms and navigating
diverse, interpersonal dynamics in an energetic environment. You
will also have a lead role in recruiting, selecting, onboarding,
training, supervising, and evaluating our terrific university
student employees.
WHAT ELSE YOU SHOULD KNOW
The position reports to the Vivian Olum Child Development Center
Director and a performance evaluation is conducted annually. This
position may be subject to a criminal records check and possible
finger printing. The two assistant directors' default schedules
must ensure coverage during the center's operating hours. The two
rotating shifts are 7:30 am - 4:30 pm and 9:00 am - 6:00 pm. The
assistant directors also serve as the Substitute Director in the
absence of the Director.
Minimum Requirements
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related
field.
- Three years of professional experience in a certified early
childhood education setting which includes both classroom teaching
and supervising teachers.
- Director qualified according to Oregon Child Care
Division.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: - Hold a valid Oregon driver's license, have a good driving record and be able to drive a 14 passenger bus.

regulations, or similar regulatory standards.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with staff
and families.

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse constituency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or
related field.
- Five years of professional experience in a certified early
childhood education setting which includes both classroom teaching
and supervising teachers.
- Experience providing program oversight and/or program decision
making authority.
- Supervision experience that includes supervising staff working
with children in a full day child care program.
- Experience working in a higher education setting.
